Why do people keep hiring Hayden Christensen?

Seriously. He has a blandness that turns off electricity and sucks the light out of the entire universe. This wasn't a movie, it was a DOCUMENTARY. They just found a well lit room, gave Hayden a script and yelled "action." Next thing you know, darkness.

Granted, Russell Crowe and Tom Hanks couldn't have saved this awful turkey, so I guess it's just as well they hired Hayden. Heck, maybe they just assumed that with him in it, no one would be awake to see how godawful the script was...

But back to point...after what Hayden Christensen did to Star Wars...what casting director would say, "Hey, I've got an idea...Hayden Christensen!" I just don't get it.

C'mon man!

After the Beatles broke up you didn't see anyone offering Yoko a band. Do you hear any countries asking to borrow George Bush? A fail is a fail...get past it...move on.

Hayden Christensen is the New Coke of actors.

really? you just had to throw Politics into a movie discussion board....gee whiz

great post, great replies, great thread!
gets my vote for an imdb "best of" (which they should have)

btw christensen is so wooden he makes keeanu reeves look like brando. next to him Chris Evans would be considered a gifted actor. How the hell can you take Darth Vader, one of the most ruthless and evil fictional characters ever created and make him...Whiney? Two words, Hayden Christensen.

I dont get all the hate he gets,I think he has done good the latest films hes been in..he could be working more tho

Just because some of you nerds are butthurt over Darth Vader and all doesnt mean the actor sucks..its the way he was written..it all comes down to fanboys hating the actor because they dislike the character..

reply

Wow, how clever and insightful you are. You are either Hayden's friend, relative, lover or sock puppet. If you think he is a good actor you know nothing about acting. Forget Star Wars, that was his best performance of his "career" he hasn't even done a good movie since that I have seen, just another pretty face. "awake"? that was horrible. calling him a good actor is like calling jessica alba a good actor. Being an actor is not about looking good. Dustin hoffman and paul giamatti are probably two of the finest actors of their generation but they ain't pretty. If he keeps at it and studies he may be good one day. Matt Dillon did it, he can too.

Same reason people hire Megan Fox. And especially Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on Transformers DOTM

i'm not anti-hayden christensen, but that is a hilarious rant you've got there.

vader is forever ruined to me because of him and lucas, but he was actually pretty decent in this.

You can't really blame Christensan for Star Wars. If he didn't have what it takes to pull the character off, then Lucas shouldn't have hired him. I personally think that he was okay in episode 3, but even if he wasn't, to you guys (once again), blame Lucas.

What struggling actor is going to pass up on the opportunity to star in a major summer blockbuster? The guy has proved that he has some acting ability, as seen it 'shattered Glass'. I also think that he was nominated for a Golden Globe for 'Life as a House'.

reply

Agreed. He was excellent in "Shattered Glass" and "Life as a House". I think what people are forgetting is that in Star Wars he (and everyone else) had to do a great deal of green screen. Some actors just don't have what it takes to deliver a good performance when they have nothing but green screen and have to completely imagine the environment; I suspect that Christensan is one of those actors.

I think Hayden acted better in this than Thandie and John. Thandie and John Leguizamo were so annoying in this movie mostly due to a horrible script. Hayden was the only silver lining and that is ironic because I don't even care for the guy much..

reply

OMG,most of you are reading my mind even though I just saw this film on tv today. I can't stand HC. His gawd awful acting help ruin the Star Wars prequels. It was a cruel joke on the audience to put him in a film called AWAKE. As for Jumper...my rant could go on forever.

I wish I had a kryptonite cross, because then I could keep Dracula & Superman away.

Hayden is ok as an actor. While I truly despise the Star Wars prequels I know better than to blame him for those turds. Yes, he had some awful moments in it, Sith especially comes to mind, but he gave us some decent moments too. He wasn't even in the first one. Samuel L. Jackson was ten times more bland and dull all the way through. And it is the director's job to instruct the actors, something Lucas just isn't very good at.

Has anybody seen outtakes from Sith? Why Lucas chose some of the takes that ended up in the final movie is a mystery to me. There are several outtakes that are much better acting wise, featuring both Hayden and other actors, that never made it. It's as if Lucas and his editors had no clue WTF they were doing, just randomly putting takes together while being drunk on Slusho.

While I've seen another movie where Hayden was crap (don't remember the title), I've also seen one where he was quite good. So to sum it up: I believe he's one of those actors that is good as long as he receives decent instructions from the director. It doesn't make him the best actor around but it surely doesn't make him the worst either.
