Solid film

Full of gore and thrill. The villains were particularly intriguing. The mother, with her chilling eyes, is one of the most iconic characters that I've seen in horror for a long time! Such a great Indonesian attempt that it is likely that an announcement will be made shortly for the American remake. How depressing.

If I had to describe the film in one word it would be derivative

The film takes everything that's awesome about new wave french horror and completely butchers it

The acting in this movie now that's depressing

It's alarming how many people on this board apparently have absolutely no knowledge of horror prior to the mid 2000s.

If you're on IMDB, you have no excuse for being this ignorant about movies. Look up The Texas Chainsaw Massacre if you want to see one of the actual inspirations for films like Macabre. They didn't borrow anything from the "new wave" of french horror.

Two years later, I guess you are still waiting for that announcement of a remake.

Seriously, this movie was horrible. 3/10 at most.

I don't understand where these idiots see something borrowed from french horror. Sure it was more intense and violent like some of the better french horror I have seen lately like Inside etc.. But other than that its like AceRoccola pointed out. If anything it's influinced by TCM. Jeez! I cant think of one ioda of the story line or a scene that was borrowed or influenced by any of the french movies listed here. I loved this film as well as the french ones listed. Need more like them and less Jason, freddy, scream, Saw or Halloween additions. And no more lame ass ghost stories for a while.

I agree. The mother is a chilling sinister presence in the film. Played by Shareefa Daanish. I'll be looking out for her to see if she has been in more horror movies.
