Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy)
I know there's already a thread about Claire (Bowen) on this board, but since Modern Family is all-the-rage now and has won so many praises, I think there's no harm in a little confetti for this under-appreciated modern TV sitcom character.
Claire is the balancing force of the show; she returns us to the deadpan-clever humor-base characteristic of the surprisingly good writing for this offbeat community values pseudo-parody sitcom.
While Sofia Vergara's character may receive all the fun, Claire is the wife-figure who makes us feel generally good about the strangeness, simplicity, and soprano-like wit of 'American values.'
She's very attractive, rather intelligent, and even if sometimes a tone-taskmaster, she makes us feel 'sophisticated.'
Bowen has really landed a perfect role for herself and is doing very well for a very well-composed American TV show.
I prefer Modern Family to other 'similar' programs in comarable time-slots such as Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Everybody Loves Raymond, Mike and Molly, and Two Broke Girls
In fact, I think this 'Claire-spotlight' show is as good as Family Ties and Valerie's Family.
As a person who is rather finicky about what-to-watch on TV, Bowen's Claire is a brilliant American flower.
I'd be heart-broken if I found out Bowen left the show to star in a high-profile Hollywood (USA) film opposite a cosmo movie star such as Tom Cruise --- perhaps in an espionage film about ISIS (Mission Impossible: ISIS).
