This movie is WOW!

I have already had the pleasure of watching the Director's Cut of this film. It is amazing! When we watched it (I want to say back in February), I was really afraid that I wasn't going to like it because I really didn't care for the very beginning. The acting seemed very "Fireproof." As the movie went on, the acting got so much better. The story is fabulous. The son dies on the 1st or 2nd day of his pilgrimage. The father goes to the country to pick the body and personal effects up. He refuses to have his son's body cremated at first, but one night he makes the decision to have the body cremated and in order to honor his son's life he decides to make the pilgrimage for him (or better yet with him because he carries his son throughout the entire journey). He begins his journey alone, but as he travels he meets people and creates bonds with them that will last a lifetime. They drive each other crazy at some points, but they realize that they need each other. The movie reminds me of the Canterbury Tales where each person comes to the journey for his or her own reason, and each has his or her own story to tell. I will stop there, but this movie had me in tears at the end. It is just such a beautiful story, and I cannot wait to watch it again. The DC was extremely long (I want to say close to 3 hours), but I hate to see them cut any of it. I wish they would hurry up and put a release date up! I'll check back to see if ya'll post any replies! Buen Camino!

I couldn't agree more! Thought it was brilliant-richly developed characters, beautiful cinematography, and fascinating back story (of the camino). Poignant AND Funny is always a winning combination ;) Emilio is a great director, and I hope people will see it on pay-per-view (as I did). I love a movie that stirs an interest in something I know nothing about. The Way definitely did that for me. I couldn't wait to get online and get a map of the routes of the Camino. Bravo to everyone who made this picture so memorable!

I hope it's everything I've been waiting for and more.

Reading your post it occurred to me that isn't cremation supposed to be against the Church?
I am not religious so many it took a while for that to sink it, and I could be wrong,

I don't know if there is any indication that those bonds will last a lifetime and that was the
magic of this movie for me, that it did not have these sappy conventions that we always want
to see in movie, and think about in life.

Sometimes marriages do not last. Sometimes life does not go right. Sometimes we get on
automatic for decades at a time. Sometimes connections and friendships of a lifetime do not
last a lifetime, and all the time we are alone. It was nice that somehow against the odds these
people connected and had a wonderful healing experience.

I would have watched the director's cut if i had the opportunity, I got to watch it on NetFlix and
I'm so glad. I missed it in the theater and probably might have forgotten about it.
