Movies similar to this one ?

Can anybody recommend more movies similar to this one ?

spiritual ones; or where the chemistry between the main characters is right (in the end at least) ?

Check out "Dream with the fishes". Not as deep but still thought provoking and the characters connect without being forced. Stars David Arquette who I usually find goofy but it works.

I suggest "Grand Canyon" from 1994, which has a very spiritual, reverent quality. It's not about a physical trek, but about life in modern L.A. and the problems and answers thereof -- more of a spiritual trek.

I also recommend 2010's "Cutback", which is a drama with surfing as a backdrop. It's very spiritual, realistic and deals with some father/son issues, like "The Way". There are some Christian overtones, just so you know, but it's really applicable to all people regardless of belief system.

I also strongly recommend "The Lucky Ones" (2008), which is one of my all-time favorite films (like "Grand Canyon"). The story's completely different than "The Way", but it is a very spiritual and entertaining film and involves a long trek across the States.

Someone else already recommended 2010's "The Way Back".

i'm surprised no one mentioned "The Naked Pilgrim: The road to Santiago"

While the series was ostensibly an arts travelogue about the pilgrimage route, it was notable for Sewell (the presenter) wrestling with his own loss of faith and for his emotional responses to the pilgrims he encountered.

I highly recommend Á köldum klaka, aka Cold Fever (1995).

A Japanese businessman travels to a remote part of Iceland to honor his parents who died there while exploring. It's very similar to The Way, only with more snow:)

A lot of strange things happen in this world. Things you don't know about in Grand Rapids.

+1 Brilliant film! Shame it's not so well known.

Long Way Round is a nine part Brit TV series in which Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman made a 20K mile motorcycle trek from London to New York. Not quite spiritual so much but certainly a journey. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Netflix streaming has it at the moment.

Documentary that tells the story of the pilgrimage by following several people walking El Camino Frances one year. It showed for a week in Chicago this month. I would recommend and endorse this review as the closest to capturing my view of the film:

Recommended if you are interested at all in the subject.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this one yet: Saint-Jaques... La Mecque (2005)

The new movie Wild (2014) is very similar to The Way. In terms of subject matter (city people taking a long hike), as well as emotional quality (getting emotional healing from the hike).
