I don't like these endings because ...

I don't like this abrupt meaningless endings because I get the feeling that the writers ran out of ideas or they went on a strike or they were afraid to choose one specific way to finish the story or ... you name it. It may work ok with a love story or a horror movie etc. but not with films of this sort.
Other than that, "Martha Macy Marlene" runs fine.

The ending was perfect you dolt. Use your mind for something other than being led down the sidewalk on a leash

Agreed, that's why it is bad.

Yeah, I bet you'd like an ending served on a platter. Maybe Martha getting to that place her sister was taking her and having a final heartfelt goodbye. Or maybe talking to a therapist and resolving her issues and then having a life with her sister, her sister's husband, and maybe even a baby which Martha would take care of.
The ending was perfect, I got chills in the end. For a second I got paranoid and scared, but probably not as much as Martha, and that's how she will probably feel for the rest of her life.
If I may ask, what else do we need to know about Martha? Since you say the ending doesn't work and that we need to know more. If you'd been paying close attention from the beginning, you'd already know everything about her, since her life as a child/young adult, to her joining the cult, to her leaving it and being where she is now. The director has given us enough information about who Martha is from just those 2 hours.
Anyway, all in good taste, and this was as tasteful as they come. This might not be a horror film, but it sure delivers the horrors of humanity.
