Yeah, I bet you'd like an ending served on a platter. Maybe Martha getting to that place her sister was taking her and having a final heartfelt goodbye. Or maybe talking to a therapist and resolving her issues and then having a life with her sister, her sister's husband, and maybe even a baby which Martha would take care of.
The ending was perfect, I got chills in the end. For a second I got paranoid and scared, but probably not as much as Martha, and that's how she will probably feel for the rest of her life.
If I may ask, what else do we need to know about Martha? Since you say the ending doesn't work and that we need to know more. If you'd been paying close attention from the beginning, you'd already know everything about her, since her life as a child/young adult, to her joining the cult, to her leaving it and being where she is now. The director has given us enough information about who Martha is from just those 2 hours.
Anyway, all in good taste, and this was as tasteful as they come. This might not be a horror film, but it sure delivers the horrors of humanity.
