to those who've seen this outside the US

the stateside prints of Submarine open with a letter from Oliver to us, the US viewers - it's very satirical and very funny, but even though I see no mention of it on IMDb under either "Crazy Credits" or "Alternate Versions," I can't imagine it playing outside the US of A - is there something equivalent elsewhere?

If anyone finds the message online, post it here if you can. I thought it was hilarious with the "we are a small country which you have not invaded yet" or something along the lines of that. But if anyone finds it, please post here =]

I'm in England and I rented Submarine last night.
No scene like that at the beginning though but now you'v mentioned it i wanna see what it said!

I don't recall that. I'm in Australia, but I watched it online.
What did it say?

reply

Just watched it in Russia, at the cinema. No such message

the letter reads:

My Dear Americans,

The film you are about to see is a biopic of my life. The events take
place (not so long ago) in a proud land called Wales. Wales is next to
England, a country you pretend to treat as an equal. My homeland has
produced Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Jones and some other people.
You have not yet invaded my country and for this i thank you.

Submarine is an important film. Watch it with respect.

Fond regards from your protagonist,
Oliver Tate

Americans who watch independent films know where Wales is.
Americans who watch independent films sincerely believe England is equal.
The United States has never had, and will never have, any interest in invading Wales. What sort of idiot would even think of such a thing?
In fact, on two occasions, the United States has contributed billions of dollars worth of equipment and hundreds of thousands of lives to help preserve Wales and the entire U.K. from being overrun by its enemies, and would do so again.
The letter is childish, historically ignorant, and offensive to the hundreds of millions of friends of the United Kingdom who live across the Atlantic.
