Mediocre Film

Mediocre film that doesnt say anything new, with loads shouting and screaming.
I found it boring perhaps people in quebec like these sort of movies in general quebec producers try so hard to mimic french cinema its even painful. Why not try to do something unique to your own culture and no try so hard copy somebody elses.

This movie was surprisingly bad. I haven't seen one-dimensional characters like these in a long time. Hubert is a very uninteresting and selfish character, but the movie never judges him, we never see him in a different light. For example, he is a gay teenager that could very reasonably struggle to come to terms with his sexuality; and yet, the fact that he is gay doesn't change anything, it doesn't add anything to our perception of him.
There's a scene where he is seen painting with his boyfriend and then they have sex on the floor, but it's lifeless, pointless. Xavier chose to show this in fast motion, to heavy music on the background, making the audience feel detached. There was an opportunity to do something great with this movie but he wasted it. Visually, it's awful. The editing and the lighting make it look like a documentary sometimes, or a bad sitcom.
Xavier's acting wasn't bad, but knowing that he directed himself in those pointless shirtless monologues, it seems that he is showing off a little.
I think he has a lot of potential and it's impressive that he has made five or six movies at such a young age, but that has more to do with the conditions he is working in. The Canadian government funds several projects, and several young directors all over the world can't make movies precisely because it's expensive. Many people described Xavier as a premature genius. I guess he's lucky and creative but doesn't have a lot to say.
