I don't know that it's as prevalent as it once was on television. There aren't many black men on tv shows in comedic roles on the major networks. Maybe it is in movies...that someone like that is the comedic relief? Kevin Hart's humor isn't really the wise-cracking type. It's more of the self-deprecating/naive (as one poster stated) variety. I have to be honest. I can't recall the last time I went to a theater to watch a comedy. If I go, it's to see an drama-indie film that isn't in many theaters. In fact, I rarely find it worthwhile going to the movies to watch a film that will be on dvd/itunes in a few months. I can pay 4.99/3.99 to see it on my computer, and by that point, I'll have had the opportunity to read reviews (good and bad) to judge whether I want to waste my money on that.
Also, this film was a mostly minority cast. It wasn't that type of film. I understand what you're getting at though, and that is certainly a big can of worms.
