I'm sorry...It won't work...

Taking a likable character and making them into something evil just doesn't work. Killer Christ! The easter bunny form hell! Kindegarten killer! These all ring stupid. This has no chance...

Obiously someone has no imagination... Also, I read an awesome book once where lucifer was a good guy who just wanted freedom from a god who rules with an iron fist and sees his creations as nothing more than tools and experiments. If you can make god look like the villain, then I think everything else is fair game.

Have you read the original stuff on Santa? Are you familiar with Black Peter? Santa is entirely capable of being evil. Trust me.

You! Obey the fist!

I'm sorry...I really liked it. It was fun in a dark way. The captured elf was great, very creepy. And the end was so funny, rare exports indeed. Yeah some plot holes, a guy could fly a chopper, so what. I'll watch this again on 12/24!

Actually chopper are often used to gather/drive the reindeer, and it's actually mentioned in the movie, that they had to take the snowmobiles because they couldn't get / or something was wrong with the chopper.

The genies of movies and at least one television show are portrayed far differently in Wishmaster (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120524/). The same for the Tooth Fairy in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270761/). While not dark, fairy tale characters will have different imaginings in the upcoming Rise of the Guardians (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446192/).

I like the different stories.

To the creator of this topic: The Santa Claus we know and love is just the Theme Park version created by the Coco-Cola Company in the 1930's. The original version of Santa was much darker ands was partially based on Odin, the king of Norse/Germanic Gods.

Thats the nordic version yes. The turkish version, the one that is popular now is based on a true story of a old rich man in turkey living in a mountains. during one christmas he dropped some gold though the chimney to a girl he knew whoe her life so she would have enough money to get married. He used chimney because there was too much snow to open the doors. And the legend spread fast into an "old man giving gifts on christmas"

Have to agree with the OP. It's a well-made new take on an age-old story but the "dark Santa" is not without its foundations. As another poster has pointed out above, there is a lot of folklore and tales where the Santa Claus story takes on a darker tone.

When I grew up, Santa would come into our house with "Knight Ruprecht" - a scary-looking guy, all dressed in black, with a long black beard and a birch. Ruprecht is meant to punish the children who have been naughty and I remember I was scared sh*tless.

When they came to visit, the two played out the good cop / bad cop routine and it always ended with Santa Claus saying: "Well, Ruprecht, I don't think we need the birch today." Until I realised these two were just guys from Church dressing up (when I was a few years older), this was an absolute horror!

Here is an old depiction of the two characters: http://s3.hubimg.com/u/2151562_f520.jpg

To go from the scary Knight Ruprecht (and similar dark tales) to a scary Santa Claus is not such a big step to make.

As for an American remake - there has been talk of a US remake for quite some time and the director has already stated he would be happy for such a remake to be made. (Not least because this would mean a big pay day, I guess - he co-wrote the script!)
