Jennifer should have gotten the oscar for this, not Silver Linings imo

She was great in both films but I found her performance here much better and much more powerful than in Silver Linings, the film itself is a bit overrated too imo. Winter's Bone was so much better in every way!

Had she not been up against Natalie Portman for Black Swan I figure she would have gotten the Oscar for this. There was no way she was going to beat out Black Swan.

Yes.

Good point, had forgotten about Black Swan! Natalie Portman nailed it though, they both deserved it but alas a choice had to be made

She should have gotten the Oscar, but she's not going anywhere. Like another "rounded" actress, Ingrid Bergman, she's going to be around a long, long time.

Sorry I might be in a minority here, but I don't see anything Oscar-worthy either in this particular film, nor in Miss Lawrence's performance.

I think her performance in The Poker House was way better and more powerful, but that film got no nominations at all.

I might be wrong about how the Academy works, but I can't shake the feeling that her nomination for Winter's Bone was in place of the missed nomination in The Poker House, and the eventual win for Silver Linings Playbook was in place of the missed win here. I wouldn't put it beyond them that the awards are "fixed" long before.

reply

Agreed. I liked this movie, but I don't think she's a great actress. Honestly, nothing I've seen of hers has blown me away, but I do like her.

Amy: I swear to God...I swear to God! That is NOT how you treat your human!

Winters bone is an outstanding film and it is so thanks to the academy awards?

Yeah their lobby have been doing so much for this kind of films being made.

Wait, have they?

Interesting.

I think her Oscar was really for both Winter's Bone and The Hunger Games. She nailed both performances. Silver Linings was OK, not the best script, but they didn't want to overlook her any more.

I think that is part of it, But I also think that it was Winter's Bone had stiffer competition, whereas when she won for Silver Linings, the competition was weaker that year. And b/c of The Hunger Games, a genre film that never gets the consideration for acting awards, so they snuck the good will from that film and transferred it to Silver Linings.

Agreed. Beautiful performance.
