Vincent vs. Nino

One thing I'm left wondering about -- if Vincent is a big time crime boss and had connection's to Nino's father's business, how is that they haven't crossed paths/swords before?

Clearly Vincent is big enough to cause problems for Nino, yet they don't have an existing relationship or know much about each other?
