It didn't explain that.

They showed a short scene around 2h mark where the girls were shown lying on the floor and then they simply ran outside the door. Anna was captured at the doorstep and Joy escaped.

She had to move the girls to the cavern under the car when the Dad came. She taped their mouths so they could not scream. After he left, she got them out of the cavern, but Joy broke free and ran for it. That is why he went back there immediately after Joy said “you were there”.
