Will seemed marked for death by some very efficient assassins (even though the first attempt to kill him failed).

So, how were they going to do it?

I'm betting on suicide. He has the tragic history of the loss of his daughter and wife, and the guilt he bears for "being late" to breakfast.

And he clearly was living alone now in his wee flat and fighting off healing social experiences.

Also, the bad guys working for the cabal of men had been surveilling the roof top of API with cameras and binocs. They knew what was going on on the roof top, including Will standing on the edge of the building as though he was going to jump off, before he pulled back.

That let them know that suicide was on his mind, and they could have worked with that, because others would likely have believed it possible he'd kill himself.
