Top Five Power Trios

I just saw the guys rank their top five power trios. I was totally stoked that Don or Jim listed King's X, one of my all time favorite bands. Eddie went with classic bands like Cream and Jimi Hendrix Experience. I consider those bands to be more classic rock than metal. Motörhead were listed, of course. No one mentioned that they had been a four piece for a while. No one mentioned Thin Lizzy. They were a trio before adding a second lead guitar player. Here are my top five power trios.

1. King's X
2. King's X
3. Triumph
4. Zebra
5. King's X

RUSH might be more of a progressive band than a metal band. I like Grand Funk Railroad a lot. But they are close to classic rock and became a four piece.

What are your favorite power trios?

I'm including hard rock & metal (since there's a thin line between the two):

Triumph
Rush
Mindwars (a newer band with 4 albums out since 2014, sorta akin to Holy Terror, but with gruffer vox)
Budgie
Grand Funk

Honorable Mention: Grand Magus, Raven, Prong, Sadus, High on Fire, The Rods, Glass Harp, Godflesh and Krisiun.

There are a few other obvious options, like Venom, but I could never get into them.
