Dogtooth vs The Lobster

I recently watched both films which have the same director Yorgos Lanthimos and tbh, I'd have to say TL is better.

They both have their highs and lows. I saw TL first and decided to check out another movie by Lanthimos and DT was it. Each film has varying degrees of weirdness. People either love or hate movies like this, there really is no middle ground.

However, from what I've read on this board, it looks like DT is basically a remake/ripoff of another film called The Castle Of Purity which I haven't seen. That's disappointing. But even so, I would still give it a 6 out of 10 and TL a 7 out of 10.

What did you peeps think of both films or just DT?

I don't like either, but Dogtooth is significantly better than The Lobster. Dogtooth is a 5/10 and The Lobster is a 2/10.

2/10 for TL? Wow... it can't be that bad. lol.

I've seen some movies that are really horrible that I would give a rating of 1/10 to like for example, Legend Of The Mummy (1998). No way TL is one notch better than that garbage film. But to each his own....

And DT is middle ground for you? haha...

Both were interesting. I preferred The Lobster. But I've only seen Dogtooth once. Of the Lanthimos movies I've seen more than once (The Lobster and the Killing of a Sacred Deer), I liked them better after a second viewing.

I'll have to check out Sacred Deer, looks pretty good. I assume the characters in it have really dry personalities like in the TL and DT?

Yeah, there's a lot of highly charged stuff that is delivered almost robotically in these movies... it's like he's inventing some sort of reverse drama or something. A great take on surrealism, in my opinion.
