Inception didn't age well

If you watch this now, it sucks, contrary to what happened to Source Code, amazing movie, less pretentious and millions of times more fun to watch. So why the rating hasn't dropped down? Lazy people left their original ratings. But it deserves a 2.1

Stop trolling please.

Totally agree. In a few years it will be like The Matrix. The clothing, hairstyles and overall general visuals were so trendy back then but look ridiculously hilarious now. It's certainly not an ageless classic...

reply

Wait, what?? What made The Matrix age isn't apparent AT ALL in Inception. One relies on Computer Technology throughout the entire film, the other is a journey into the subconscious thru dreams but by using Cinematic Tools that NEVER age. Idk how anyone can compare the 2. They are almost Polar Opposites in the way they were filmed.

reply

After reading this thread it's incredible to me how polarizing this film is.

Those who love it can make a legitimate case for it being one of the 10 best films of all time.

Those who hate it can make a legitimate case that it's the worst part of Hollywood.

reply

No, there really is no case at all for it being terrible. That opinion is just someone being stupid.

reply

I think it's a solid action movie with some good performances, some interesting ideas and some intriguing symbolism but it really isn't the flawless masterpiece a lot of people (read: Nolanites) claim it is. A solid 8/10 and worth a rewatch or two but not a gamechanger or a timeless classic.

reply

I'm by no way a Nolanite, but Inception is in my top 5 of all time.

This coming from someone who hates TDKR, isn't a huge fan of Batman Begins, and didn't really care for Interstellar

reply

I can respect that, but for me it was neat visually and had some intriguing ideas and themes about the unconscious mind and Jungian philosophy but it never really wowed me. I feel like it was a bit too stuck in its heist-movie genre trappings to really explore the questions it raised. It's a solid movie, but it's just never really wowed me the same way other Nolan movies like The Dark Knight and Memento did.

reply

I've always felt that the most interesting and important theme of the film has nothing to do with dreams. It's really about Cobb and how he moves on from tragedy. It's shaped his entire psychosis as he holds on to his memory of Mal. It's beautiful and tragic at the same time as he finally comes to terms with letting her go. In one way or another, that's something most people can relate to in a very emotional way.

reply

You couldn't be more wrong, its just as good today and remains an amazing film you can watch again and again.

reply

But it deserves a 2.1

You can claim that it's overrated. Fine.
But this is like homeless-dude-ranting-at-pigeons level sh--.

reply

I rewatched it today. And it is definitely the kind of movie that gets better with each viewing. Totally deserves its reputation.

reply

Just another excuse to share the feelings and consider the brilliant movie 'overrated'. Even if movies ages, the rating will not jump from 8.8 to 2.1, Impossible. Movies do not ages. Masterpiece remains the same. Why do you think 'Fight Club', 'The Godfather', 'Schindler's List', 'The Shawshank Redemptions', '12 Angry Men', 'Pulp Fiction', 'The Good, the bad and the ugly', 'The Dark Knight' are considered top 10 best movies of all time. Besides Inception is just 5 years old. Even 'Fight Club' is not considered 'old'. One day mind-blowing action movies will thank 'Inception' or 'The Matrix' because these are the first of their kind.

They are considered the best movies of all time by who? The voters in this site? Please
There are so many movies people don't watch that are far superior than that ones, because they don't know about them. You can't say they are the best movies of all time, because nobody knows. From that list, only "The Godfather", "Pulp Fiction" and "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" are masterpieces for me. "12 Angry Men" and "Schindler's List" are great movies for sure thou. "The Dark Knight" is probably the most overrated movie of all time, period. 9? "The Shawshank Redemption" rellies to much on melodrama and cheesy dialogue, "Fight Club" has its moments, but gives a taste that something is missing, liked it a lot thou.

"Inception" is a fun movie with some good ideas, that ultimately doesn't work that well. I've seen the movie 3 times. And everytime I rewatched it, it felt worst. I loved it when it came out, but it's not a timeless classic

Think whatever you want. What you like from that list does not bothers anyone. You are not superior than millions of voters of this site. Your opinion does not matters. I can say whatever I want. If you don't agree with the ratings leave the site. And your statement is objective. Who are you to call a movie overrated. I don't like Gladiator or Raiders of the lost ark that does not means those movies are overrated. If you think that makes you appear smart it does not.

reply

I agree. People have analyzed this film endlessly. It's not that "cool" anymore. I don't know about a 2.1 rating however.

reply

yes it was all hyped at the beginning.
