too soon

The good thing is that they did pick a place where this pandemic really did play out as pandemics do - lots of peeps in their 70's and 80's died in the old people care homes.
The acting was OK from the lead. The story..... given that I'm still in a country that's under lockdown, I've been reading more than enough about this pandemic, so my desire to watch a movie about it is kind of close to zero.

At the same time - yeah, the story is very simple. Nothing particularly fascinating, mind you.

There is a tremendous amount of storytelling that can be had with what went on - starting with the bits in China - Fauci/Daszak role in the matter (no, it's not a conspiracy) - then you have WHO - it's 'search' for the origin of the virus under the direction of Daszak. That's an incredible story - and I suspect Hollywood will have the guts tackle it in a decade or two.

What's currently going on with vaccines is no less surreal. CDC expert panel voted against the booster shots but were overruled by the CDC director. VAERS is ignored and ridiculed by the powers that be. Science, as it were, is being turned into a circus.

Then there's the censorship angle - facebook/youtube/twitter all colluding to keep any information not approved by the government/WHO off their respective platforms - people being banned right and left.

Like I said, there's a LOT of storytelling to be had. The odds are, when hollywood does get around to it, it will botch it up and turn it all into a scifi, when the reality is no less fascinating and disturbing.

As for this film - it's a safe bet. A mere coverage of what went on in one care home center. No controversy here. You want controversy though? In Canada's retirement homes, an investigation has shown that a huge percentage of residents in at least one of those centers died not of covid, but rather of dehydration and starvation. This was reported in the news.

How about the NY retirement homes where the governor hid some atrocious practices, crapload of deaths and got an award for a job well done.

So when you have all that - and you are picking the simplest and safest story - that's weak and boring. As such, I'd say while the lead did a good job in terms of acting - the story was not worth watching. There's no substance to it.

There's at least 5 hard-hitting films from different angles in regards to what went on thus far. I dread to think how many more similar stories will materialize, since this is not yet over. So, again, there's 5 hard hitting and potentially Oscar worthy films waiting to be made - but this film ain't it - not even close.
