A24 really screw this one up

Their most expensive film of all time and they completely botched the marketing. The film bombed hard, grossing $11 million on a budget of $35 million. I get the film is very niche but I don't think marketing the film should've been THAT hard, and there's no reason the film was released in only 900 theaters. Not sure what they were thinking. That poster for example is pretty awful and barely helps with anything the movie has to offer.

I’m really pleased that they threw Ari Aster a decent budget to do what he wanted with, but yeah… it totally backfired because Beau is navel-gazing done completely wrong. The neurotic and whiney main character is impossible to root for, making the three hours of abstract madness a real slog.

I’m glad Aster has done his personal project but I hope going forwards he’ll be more considerate of his audience.

It's Aster's Heaven's Gate.
