I've seen some A24 stans online forgiving this films poor performance.

Apparently little indie A24 knew this would flop and decided to give Ari Aster $35 million to piss down the drain because they like him and want to keep him a happy boy. Sure.

They took a risk. They thought given the performance of Hereditary and Midsommar, the developing Aster fanbase and Joaquin Phoenix, a big name actor coming of the box office hit and critically acclaimed Joker (2019), would be enough to draw in audiences.

They were wrong.

It is always a chuckle seeing people perform mental gymnastics to avoid any negative connotations forming around films they like. The film flopped. Doesn't mean it's bad, many great films were box office bombs, it happens.

Agreed. This also had a terrible poster, an odd title, a 3 hour running time and was going up against Mario and Evil Dead Rise, it stood no chance of being a box office success.

I didn't like the film anyway, better luck next time Ari.
