I don't think it matters; it's all happening in one way or another, whether in material reality or in his psychological reality. In other words, it all has meaning.

Well it depends... I would say most are at least exaggerated by his imagination and his different mental conditions... but you can also argue all this is created by his mother... who wants to totally control Beau... So I wouldn't say you are dense:-)
