Well that goes without saying. TDKR was quite possibly my greatest theater experience ever and even now I get emotional every time I watch it. I have to be very careful every time I choose to view it because I have to make sure I have 2 hours 45 minutes to spare because once I start it I have to go all the way through. These are my 10 top movie rankings of all time:

1) The Empire Strikes Back
2) The Godfather Part II
3) Pulp Fiction
4) Apocalypse Now
5) The Dark Knight Rises
6) Raiders of the Lost Ark
7) Platoon
8) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
9) Interstellar
10) Titanic

The Force Awakens on the other hand is painful to watch, I have only seen it twice but the second time I watched it (which was the first time on blu ray) it took me a week to finish. The characters are painfully bland, the story is a complete rip off of ANH, Rey is a Mary Sue, Leia is an idiot and Finn is more annoying than Jar Jar. And Starkiller base is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in a movie. The Force Awakens is my least favorite Star Wars movie:

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) A New Hope
3) Revenge of the Sith
4) Return of the Jedi
5) Attack of the Clones
6) The Phantom Menace
7) The Holiday Special
8) Rogue One
9) The Force Awakens

Fair enough, A New Hope was a great film I just felt that Empire went a lot deeper but I can see what you're saying. I really like ROTS but I can also see some problems with it such as the 100% CGI environments and we still have a little bit of that corny love dialogue. Either way all of the OT and PT are competently made films, the Disney films are a complete insult to my intelligence.

Oh I actually went all the way to 25, this is what made the cut:

11) Braveheart
12) The Dark Knight
13) Psycho
14) The Godfather
15) Schindler's List
16) Edward Scissorhands
17) Saturday Night Fever
18) The Terminator
19) Scarface
20) Saving Private Ryan
21) Reservoir Dogs
22) Memento
23) Aliens
24) Jurassic Park
25) Apollo 13

I am somewhat surprised by 2 on your list; The Dark Knight Rises and Titanic. The other 8 are great movies no doubt and are among some of my favorites. But Titanic and Rises are on the bottom end of my least favorites. If your interested I could into detail as to why I think TDKR is so bad but I am wondering why you felt these 2 are so good considering our taste seems similar otherwise.

BTW here are my Top 10 List of favorite movies:

1. Silence of the Lambs
2. Gladiator
3. The Thing (1982)
4. Jurassic Park
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Alien
7. Heat
8. Raiders of the Lost Ark
9. Big Trouble in Little China
10. The Princess Bride

Contrastly here are what I consider the best (not necessarily favorite) movies:

1. The Godfather
2. One Flew over the Cuckoos nest
3. Ben-Hur (1959)
4. The Good the Bad and the Ugly
5. Lawrence of Arabia
6. The Three Faces of Eve
7. Citizen Kane
8. Dr. Strangelove
9. Jaws
10. Schindler's List

Here is my star wars order

1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTJ
4. ROTS
5. TPM
6. Rogue One
7. ATOC
8. Holiday Special
9. Ewok Adventures
10. Clone Wars
11. I wish I could go further down before I get to TFA

In regards to TDKR I thought it overall a poor follow up to TDK and really undermines quite a few themes of it. Like for example Batman "needing to be batman" is undermined because for 8 years he is not batman. Both his romance with Selena Kyle and Tilia Al Ghul felt forced; especially with Tilia considering it both came out of now where and made the betrayal later obvious. The only reason they romanced was to give the betrayal significance becuase the character on her own was unimportant. Bane gets reduced to glorified Hench man in the last 10 minutes of the film. In decision about does batman die or not die. Alfred behaving completely different than in the last 2 films without much explanation. Some laughably bad dialogue and action scenes. That end one of cops vs Bane's army was hilariously bad, why the hell was no one shooting why the hell did it turn into a comical fist fight free for all. Bruce losing all his money getting his back broken just bounces back in a few months. First the unlimited resources IS batman's power. Without that he has nothing, taking it away mid film means he would no longer have the means to be batman. Also his freaking back was broken, you can't just have is punched back into place and do a few push ups and be stronger after. Other characters just did and said stupid things. I typically do not like movies where the characters are being stupid (Prometheus). I mean I could kinda of go on if you want and give a detailed explanation of each of these criticism but I want to see if this suffices first.

With ATOC I think it was just the weakest and poorest executed of the PT. I appreciate the attempt at uniqueness but I think bouncing back and forth between Anakin/Padme romance and Obi-wan investigation really undermines the tension for both story lines. In addition the manner in which the romance is depicted is sort of cringe worthy. And we did not even get a decent lightsaber battle out of it.

LOL this topic is a place for all the current Star Wars haters to gather.

The worst part is that they're doing it on the Dark Knight Rises board, and that is one of the worst movies ever made.

But mxpowers, at least you recognize what a turd TDKR is!

;)

TDKR might be a turd but TFA is by far worse. Which is amazing when you think about how much i obviously did not like TDKR.

reply

OK you think TFA is like the greatest movie ever yet TDKR sucks. You have exposed yourself as a troll, get a life dickhead. I'm sorry you aren't smart enough for Nolan's genius, stick to your Disney movies, they are a lot closer to your intelligence level.

reply

Oh I love Nolan, but TDKR was a huge stinker.

It figures that you guys would be blind Nolanites who think he can do no wrong.

I bet you thought Interstellar had good science too, oh PLEASE say you agree with that.

reply

TDKR is the best Nolan film as far as I'm concerned and it's way better than that piece of sh!t The Force Awakens. All you have is your own subjective opinion. And no I realize that Interstellar has faulty science for the sake of the plot, I didn't realize that science fiction had to be 100% scientifically accurate. Speaking of faulty science first of all how is Starkiller base able to suck up all of the energy of a star and not melt? How did they not freeze to death if the star they were orbiting lost all of its energy? How is there sound in space? How are all of those planets so close to each other (planets are really millions of miles away from each other)? But in all seriousness Interstellar is another movie that is far better than The Force Awakens. Nolans only two movies that aren't masterpieces are Insomnia and Dunkirk.
