significance of the N-Sync song?

plays during the intro, Strawberry plays a nice interpretation of it to Mikey as his plans are about to be realised, and it's played again during the, ahem, naked mile scene right near the end.
Oh, and then it plays backwards during the finale.
Am I missing something? Was the song supposed to be some sort of motif for Mikey? He always seems to be taking off so "bye bye bye" ? Or does Sean just really like that song?!
