Marisa falls for loser . . .right

A doofus drunk John Reilly gets Marisa Tomei to drool for him by leaking on a tree. He obsesses and stalks. She finds it endearing that he's standing in her living room one day unannounced. Schmoopy, I want to spend the rest of my life etc., Marisa melts for this maudlin nonsense because it's been a while and apparently she has turned 17 in that time, things work out, The End. Put a bullet in my head please.

na, I found the film optimistic even if dark at times. The John Reilly character is a decent guy and you get the impression Tomei character is looking for a decent guy.I mean you can see the guy cant believe his luck(Tomei is still gorgeous)At the end Jonah Hill's character puts his mothers happiness before his own.Great acting to boot.

I kind of thought the same thing, but Molly was pretty emotionally messed up too. After seeing where she was with her life, I understood why overhearing him on the couch at party could've spoken to her and ignited a spark.

I mean no one in the movie was completely sane.

wow, immature - totally !!

you must be under 25, otherwise you're socially inept.

like someone else already posted, she's got baggage of her own, so it's not like she's going to be your average hot woman who "unbelievably" falls for a dork.

the whole message of the movie is about HONESTY - she finds that refreshing in him, and it's also what ultimately gets through to Cyrus.

too bad you're too inexperienced in life to appreciate this.

The world is divided into people who think they are right.

Wow, yet it's totally mature to go off on the poster like some kind of dumbass. Did they hit a nerve or something?

i respond in kind, you don't expect someone immature to understand a mature response, do you ?

so; you reply in language that they are more used to.

"I upped my pledge already, up yours" - Raising Hope

reply

That wasn't about any such language, it was just unnecessarily and bizarrely confrontational.

oh, you mean like *your* response to me ?

"I upped my pledge already, up yours" - Raising Hope

reply

You started the personal attacking, therefore since the other poster probably didn't know he/she received such a reply, I stepped in.

aww shucks, what a HERO !!

i could claim the same reason for Marisa then.

"I upped my pledge already, up yours" - Raising Hope

reply

I barely remember this movie. I could have used a "oh, you're right, I'll try to be less confrontational in the future".

makes your reaction a little strange then, huh ?
(relative to the movie itself)

i posted having *just* watched the movie, and so was reacting with a fresh opinion.

anyway, i'm *naturally* confrontational - so, i expect to get the same as well; no harm done...

Anytime someone attacks the poster, instead of the ideas expressed, one has to question the maturity level (or something) of that person

SOMETIMES hot women fall for dorky guys.

Marisa is in her late 30s/early 40s, she has had plenty of time to troll around for hunky movie-star types -- most of them probably ran like the plague as soon as they met Baby Huey in the basement.

She probably just wanted a nice normal honest guy and John was pretty close to being one.

Plus, while she is still damn good looking, she is not 22 years old any more.

She's actually pushing 50 (turns 48 in a month) and is so fine, I wouldn't think TWICE about making a housecall. Some women just have it. And what you said is dead on. She's still a mother first...never really got that separation because of how manipulative and possessive Cyrus is of her. So in a sense, John is a great fit BECAUSE he would seem to be more understanding...not desperate, but his persona would seem to fit what she would be looking for. A guy that's a little more self-absorbed or even demanding wouldn't work because invariably, she is going to choose her son over a man, no matter how great he might be, because she's a mother first.

reply

Marisa actually looks better now than she did when she was younger. That's a beautiful Italian American woman.

reply

Believe it or not there are really hot (not Marisa hot),available, single women in their 40s out there. The problem is that there is always a "Cyrus" of some sort that drives men away. I know this from much experience. That is the truth in this film.

reply

Yup!

reply

the only thing I wanna know is: how did that head fit through that vagina?

reply

full disclosure: i did not care much for this movie

the first thing i said to my wife was that I would never normally believe this could happen, but I have a female coworker that is very attractive, well fit, and
has a good personality that is married to a SCHMUCK. He is overweight, lacks personality, is anti social, does not make good money, and at times seems more interested in his phone than his attractive wife.

no one in our office of 60 people can figure it out.

ps - not that I believe money is important, but that is usually one of the first things people think, after the big wang of course.

Hey Yunker .... are you sure your name isnt Shallow Hal?

reply

meaning???

what base have I not covered?
physical looks , attentiveness (caring), interesting (intellect), income.

some are attracted to one of those traits or is there something else.

reply

Well, the script of this movie explains it all. Maybe the same thing applies to your co-worker.

The John character is portrayed as a hideous looking loser; and the night he got lucky he was behaving in a completely obnoxious way. AND, while he was airing out and draining his genitals, the Molly character says "Nice Penis!".

Clearly he was well-endowed from her point of view. This asset trumped all the negatives, from her point of view.

In the rest of the film, the John character barely raises himself from the schmuck level, and if anything, becomes less interesting as the movie goes on. But she keeps sleeping with him. Whatever he hid under those sweat pants was something that completely dominated Molly's judgement.

I really didn't think John was hideous looking or a loser. He's a normal looking dude with a decent job and a really sweet personality who has been depressed for a long time. But the fact that he was completely honest from the get-go would probably have been really attractive to a woman like Molly.

There were actually quite a few moments in the film that really highlighted how sweet and open John could be. I mean, when he gets so excited at the prospect of Molly visiting his house after work the day after the party and cleans everything, and prepares a nice dinner, and tries to look presentable, how could you not be like, "awww, that's pretty adorable". There is definitely something appealing in being with a person who always seems to be so thrilled spending any moment with you. Besides, it's pretty clear she needs a sensitive guy who could understand the relationship with her son. Actually, I think he probably reminds her of her son a little as well.

I don't know if you're joking about the penis thing, but that's pretty stupid. Clearly she was just making a joke and was interested in talking to him because of hearing him open up at the party.

Remember she got her Oscar for playing Vinnie Bag O'Donuts fiance.
