Great movie!

I thought this was a great movie! I went by myself and enjoyed it immensely. I'm really surprised it didn't crack the top five movies at the box office. I thought it was the same level of fun and funniness as the first Night at the Museum. Yogi Bear did fairly well with families, and I'm surprised Gulliver didn't do equally as well. I would have loved this movie when I was a kid. It's fun, silly, and has heart. And the effects were very well done.

It might be different than the book, but it's just a separate entity. Like the recent Journey to the Centre of the Earth. They aren't trying to be an accurate adaptation, just something based on the source.

Anyway, after reading so many negative reviews, I had to chime in. I feel like I did when I enjoyed Mr.Bean's Holiday so much, only to find out that very few people in North America felt the same way, and it surprised me, lol.

As a family we love Jack Black's films. Having seen the poor rating this got, I read the reviews and fully agree with cmjsrevihc.
I can't understand the hate towards this film. I watched the cartoons, and read the books as a kid, so we took our teenage sons to see it over Xmas in 3D.
We all thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is. A good, fun, family film.
Just watched it on again on Blu-ray, and enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
Maybe it's because we're English, so it appealed more to our sense of humour.
We too, loved Mr Bean's Holiday, and all the Shrek films.

I wouldn't call it great but it was better than a lot of people say.

I watched it on cable, and was entertained. I laughed when he came back to shore with all the red welts.

Cringworthy movie, dreadful writing and acting. Fully deserves the 4 rating it has on imdb.

That's about why I wasn't overly impressed.

Kids aren't stupid. Why do we have different expectations between child and adult movies? The themes may be sanitised for younger audiences, but it doesn't mean the execution has to be crude, as well.

If they aren't trying to be an accurate depiction of source material, then use a different name.

This movie was a huge turd. It was basically Dewey Finn Goes to and Island Where He's A Giant.

Surprised at the low rating, I actually gave it a 9, thought it was a fun movie which didn't take itself too seriously like any Disney live action film really, yeah maybe it didn't stay true to the novel but so what, it's not a crime for the director to decide to things slightly differently from the book is it ?
