Does anybody else agree: This game packs a major emotional punch?

This is not to say that the first two games in the Deus Ex series did not pack an emotional punch - they did, but of a different sort. In DX: HR, the emotional punch is far more personal. In DX and DX: IW, the emotional punch comes in terms of the task you are faced with, the gravity of the situation at hand. In DX: HR, you get to know each character in a far more in-depth manner, especially Adam Jensen. I felt myself connecting with the characters quite a bit and even relating with the characters.

Its only fitting, though. The subtitle is "HUMAN Revolution." This game is about the human condition.

Easily the best game of the 2010s, thus far.

I thought it was a very good emotional story. For the first time in awhile, when I failed to save Malik during the crash and you find her body in the Harvester compound, I actually got pissed at them.

reply

Indeed. Even after a run through where I shot Zeke Sanders and later got access to the police morgue and he was there on a slab I was like "Oh, I did that..."

And despite the flaccidity of the ending choice presentation, I did sit there for a while and seriously try to think what the ramifications would be from each choice. I think the first time I played I went with Taggart.

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.

Wait you could save her? I thought it was automatic.

Damn it!

Every last of the the attacking Belltower enemies must be knocked out or destroyed, in order to do so. It's hard to use non-lethal force, because the Boxguard explodes (causing collateral damage) whenever shut down by an EMP.

I agree. I actually hated Megan Reed's character and ended the game feeling like a pawn for the most part. Definite emotional impact on so many different levels.

reply

Yeah, Megan ends the game feeling like a dirty scumbag.

Well, this games storywriting falls flat on its own butt so many times
its simply awkward to list it. Just for an inkling look up smudboys videos
on youtube for this game.
In fact i think what we have with DX:HR is what happens when ambition meets
deadline and that it was released at least a year to early just o satisfy the investors.
That said this game is still as unfinished and rough as it hits the shelves one
of the better games of its kind in the past years.
The gameplay mechanics are good but the game progresses from a real hybrid fps-
rpg to a simple (and lame) running at the mill only to let the player choose from a couple alternate "endings".
But where the game realy fails is what it set out to be: a emotional involving
and rewarding game.

reply

Definitely! The first two are situational, this one's personal. A personal quest to find Megan, and you eventually find out you were used on a microscopic level.

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.

reply

Right, and you learn that she only got involved to steal a dna sample.
LOL. That`s so freakin stupid.
