a better Sharon Carter than Sharon Carter

I've been whining about Sharon almost certainly being a skrull after her character took a dark turn in "Falcon & The Winter Soldier." I just think it'd be more interesting if the actual Sharon became somewhat dark despite her heritage.

Then it occurred to me, skrull-Sharon could still be complex and interesting. Based on "Captain Marvel," seems like MCU skrulls actually become their imitations, not just in appearance but memory and personality, if they remain in that form long enough.

So maybe skrull-Sharon, as well as many others from this upcoming "Secret Invasion," aren't actually bad guys. They're just well-meaning imitators who've lost their way, and might even come to believe that they're better than the originals (who've been off in space with Fury) at being whoever-they-are.

Just a thought. But I wanted to post it here in case any comic fans can say whether the actual "Secret Invasion" storyline had similar plot points.

"I'm a better you than you ever were," seems more intriguing than just bad guy body-snatchers.

Did the comic books ever explore that notion?

My favorite take on this from the comics was the resurrected Mar'Vell (original guy a Captain Marvel).
At first he seems to be the original, and not dead because it was his skrull clone what died in that famous graphic novel. So he's back and fighting the skrull invasion with all his might. Then it turns out he is a skrull, and was just brainwashed into thinking he was the dead kree hero.
He accepts this, but didn't really care. The brainwashing is so complete, he just keeps fighting the skrulls, as if he really was Mar'Vell.

Thanks for the response - just what I'd been hoping for, i.e., much more interesting and potentially profound plot lines than just fighting an "evil imposter"
