Terrible title but decent movie

The handful of IMDB reviews I read seemed to be disappointed that this wasn't some action packed Terminator-ish movie... which is exactly the reason I enjoyed it. It's really a drama with some action sequences here and there.

I don't know why they settled on such a terrible title which may have contributed to the problem.

It's similar to what I remember of The Walking Dead... mostly about the relationships between various human factions with the periodic appearance by menacing androids for some low-key action sequences.

The androids are not particularly destructive. They are somewhat more robust than humans but not much. That's because they were previously used for domestic labour. They're not hardened for military applications so succumb relatively easily to bullets and blades. However, they are quick to learn about human behavious and emotions and are starting to use that to their advantage.

The only issue I had with believability is Chloe Moretz' super-human pregnant wife. Despite being very large with a baby and on the cusp of giving birth, she does a lot of running, falling and exerting herself physically, crying out periodically to remind us that she's in a lot of pain as she does the super-woman stuff.

The ending is a gut punch, but I won't say more than that.

"The ending is a gut punch, but I won't say more than that."

Does she end up giving birth to a cyborg? :D

Did you see the movie?

Spoiler:
I actually thought that something similar was going to be the case... that she would turn out to be some sort of human/android cyborg being used to infiltrate the human outposts. So it was a nice surprise that they didn't drag out this cliche.

Not yet, is it worth to watch it?

I enjoyed it, but the sci-fi stuff is minimal. There are no high concept action pieces.

In some ways it reminded me of Maggie, the Arnold Schwarzenneger zombie flick. Everyone thought: "Zombies! Schwarzenegger! This will be fantastic!" only to be disappointed that it was really this very small scale drama with almost zero action in it. (If you haven't seen Maggie check it out too. Schwarzenegger really surprised me with his quiet performance in this.)

Think of this movie as a low key road trip movie about two people trying to find safety for themselves and their soon-to-be-born baby. There are definitely a few mis-fires in the story but overall, keep your expectations in check and you might enjoy it for what it is.

Well, you compared it with TWD as a positive, for me that show was atrocious, filled with unnecessary (and a lot of times teen) drama beyond any reason.

So if I'm to base my taste on TWD probably I will hate this movie ... and no, I'm not one that requires a lot of action to enjoy a movie/show.

reply

I never got into TWD either.

My bad I guess for the way I explained it.

I didn't like TWD either. I gave up on it after S3.

reply

Agreed. The title made me think of "I Am Mother," which was definitely better. I almost wondered if it was a sequel or spin-off of that.

I also had no problem with the pace of the film, I wasn't expecting something action-packed. I'll check Maggie out.

I have a 4 week old baby which I had by c section and was thinking no way could she hope of that fast. I was on heavy meds and had to shuffle to the bathroom.
