Hmmm...'tremendous characters, impressive visuals, outstanding story'

Looking over and looking back at the comments made about Iron Man 2 this comment makes you think about the trilogy in general ... "tremendous characters, impressive visuals, outstanding story NUFF SAID!"

That was said about Iron Man 2. So, can the same be said about Iron Man 3?

Let's see...

Tremendous characters? Yes, IM3 certainly has the same leads with a better supporting cast. IM3 has the far better villain.

Impressive visuals? Yes, just as good but better because it wasn't all armor action. Yes, the armor were "drones better" as Ivan would say but Tony's Iron Legion beats the hell out of the Hammeroids.

Outstanding story? Yes, I found the story in IM3 to be more thrilling and more cinematic. Tony and Pepper felt like they were in real danger this time around. IM2, not so much.

So, IM2 was good but IM3 is much better.

IM2 was indeed good but IM3 is indeed better.

What Marvel Studios film has ever failed to hit the mark?

reply

Nothing to date has missed and if Guardians of the Galaxy somehow finds an audience, Marvel will drive some people completely nuts.

outstanding story... Yes.

Correct. Correct. Correct.

reply

That's exactly why you move to enjoy the film and forget about all other matters and factors. The books and the haters pushing forth their venom never mattered and never will.

reply

All of that stems from the fact that the writers of this film did their job and then some. It was the best written big budget film of the year and even the critics said as much.

reply

IM2 was smart but the tension was not there. Here, there were thrills right through the film.

The robot drone factor hurt IM2 a bit.

reply

Let's not forget some of the best action of any genre film in recent memory as well.

It was right in May and it will still be right THIS May.

How about this crtic quote...

It’s an intelligent movie that actually works way above the level set up by a lot of previous comic adaptations. Without question, the makers of this movie went all the way in making it a remarkable experience for everyone. To their credit, they never assumed that the hype or good will of the first two films or Avengers was good enough to put butts in the seats. They really respect the source material but they’ve accentuated the believable and realistic angles of a great story. The Mandarin and the plot twist they used are as far away from the books as it gets yet it all works wonderfully. This is a movie about great characters first. Staying true to the source material is important to Marvel but flexibility is also a key. The plot stemming from that is amazing and only serves to add to a great story. Everything was juggled perfectly but I expected no less from this crew.

So, by posting a fake critic quote, you are admitting that IM3 had a lukewarm critical reception, right?

Intelligent? This perfunctory, defectively written mess, that had no strong thematic emphasis, with characters that are as believable as cardboard figures, is considered not only an "intelligent" film, but someone actually says that it worked above some other comic book movies that are actually good? Worked how? The script is generic, the tone is dull, the dialogues are cringeworthy, the motivations are flat. Where is that imaginary intelligence?

They really respect the source material

No, they don't. Anyone who ever a Marvel comic knows that MCU doesn't care for staying faithful to the comics.

The Mandarin and the plot twist they used are as far away from the books as it gets yet it all works wonderfully.

Not really. I mean, the movie itself suffers from poor writing and one-dimensional characterizations, but that twist gets too much praise than it truly deserves. The only hidden message that this movie gave us is that Shane Black should never again direct another comic book movie. People think about that meaningless plot-point too much. Iron Man 3 is not a Dark Knight, when you can write a book about all the subliminal meanings behind the film. Iron Man 3 is a cookie-cuter, generic, uninventive schlock. Maybe the idea behind this "hidden message" looked good in a concept, but the execution is what kills any potential for this to be taken seriously. It's like with the Prometheus, which had great ideas, but the execution of those ideas was flat and dull. Iron Man 3 was even worse than that.

If Shane Black, who is definitely not someone who has brilliant writing and directing skills, intended to mock the perception of terrorism in society, he would have an entire film dedicated on exploration of that. But he's too dumb and generic to actually make something good out of that concept. People are giving simply some generic excuses for the fact that Shane Black did very poor execution with the story and the conceptuality of the film (which it didn't really had).

Shane Black is the one who thinks that tasteless one-liners and dull action is more important than sophistication and inventiveness. He never wrote or directed a movie that really has something intellectually to offer. He wrote Last Action Hero, after all. That's says a lot about his style.?

A really interesting commentary on this movie.

And continue to speak!

Can't. IMDB shut down the only fun part of their site. These pages.

I'm saddened and stunned by IMDB's choice to nut punch loyal visitors and shut these forum pages down.

The story still is as good if not better. Marvel can peel layers and find gold. They do it all the time. Keeping the real Mandarin in play is masterful.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmm.

reply

You can say the same thing about Captain America The Winter Soldier. You may even see several spin off characters from that film.

reply

I have not seen one viable complaint yet!

reply

I really loved the hard-edged, physical action. No wire-u or even noticeable CGI as well.

reply

Old school movie making will trump new wave computer cgi overuse almost every single time.

reply

Marvel takes advantage of every single opportunity. Ever notice that?

reply

Well? I'm waiting still...

Can anyone say different even after all this time that has passed? Can they?

reply

This film was very, very well received - yet...trolling?
It's a troll era I guess.

I saw this in the "Near Perfection! Iron Man 3 resonates above all other third films" thread.

I accept your surrender.
