Cancelled

it's gone..along with Bored to Death and Hung

reply

I'm so furious right now about HTMIIA getting cancelled.... I loved this show!!! Shame on you HBO!

reply

New fan, loved the show. Episodes were too short and we only got 8 a season which is weak, I just wanted more showtime per season because I felt like the show could have been deeper if they had the time. Man, this is a let down.

There was so much potential! Some HBO exec must've read that article how HBO never cancels any of its shows.

If you want to hate something, go to imdb.

reply

Yeah, that was a rather stupid article. HBO cancels shows all the time. That being said, after the final episodes ending, Ben, Cam, Rene and arguably maybe even Rachel all have "made it" after that ep. It was good of the producers to at least have sort of an ending to the series.

reply

*beep* HBO !!!

Thomas Jane was offered the lead in Mad Men, he didn't take it because he didn't want to do TV.

reply

Good riddance for all three shows, although Hung was good for a few seasons. "Enlightened" is renewed despite poor ratings. HBO may finally be getting back on the right track with its Original Programming.

reply

Really, it's HBO's fault that this show didn't make it since they hardly promoted it. I didn't even know it existed until about two months ago and if I were to ask people I know they probably would be ignorant about it too... and I'm someone who's seen just about every HBO series. Bored to Death was good too, but it was very niche, they shouldn't have been expecting it to be a huge hit. Hung should've been called something else, because you automatically turn it into a guilty pleasure and kinda homoerotic for male fans by naming it that, plus a lot of people never gave it a shot with such a name.

Damn it was just getting good. They messed up by pacing it so slowly. FINALLY something was happening but people had already begun to tune out.

reply

Sorry, but I hate when people mess up the phrase "I couldn't care less" by saying "could" lol. I watched this entire series in about in two or three days and didn't notice a major shift in quality. I haven't watched Enlightened but it's probably staying because it was their only comedy to get award nominations (Golden Globes). I believe Eastbound (and Treme) only have one season left.

I am dissapointed about Hung, but this show SUCKED, and Bored to Death I never saw it so I won't comment

sigh i'm sad. what to watch now...

I've a kinda mixed reaction to the news. I never quite knew whether I really enjoyed the show enough to keep going with it or not.

Took me a while to click on to the Hipster part of it.

I enjoyed a couple of the characters and always love seeing New York.

Almost on alternate epsiodes though, I found myself just not giving two hoots about it.

Lake Bell brought me to the show. I guess it served it's purpose on that front! ;)

It was just starting to get really good! That's it.. its offical.. I'm a "new show killer" because every time I start watching a new show and get into it.. it always gets cancelled. This happens EVERY TIME unless I get into the show later after it becomes successful. DAMMIT!

Here are some examples of shows I've killed by watching them:

Fast Lane
Damon
Spider-Man (MTV 2003)
Chappelle's Show
Lie To Me
The Chicago Code
Hung
How To Make It In America

Every show I watch from season 1 dies by season 3 or earlier. Every time!! Only exceptions so far:

Top Chef
Jersey Shore (Which I stopped watching)

I kill shows!! Be afraid! If your favorite show is brand new and I'm watching it.. don't expect it to stick around.

reply

Yeah, thank god, this sh*t was awful.

chas why do you spend so much time on this board? I just checked it out today and for someone who hates this show so much, you seem to be in almost every thread. I get coming to a board one or twice to vent frustration about something you dislike, but dude you are really on it. By the way how can a tv show be "stuck up"? You did not say that but someone else did.

It was a good show. Its not the wire, game of thrones, true blood, breaking bad, the sopranos, the corner, the shield. It was kind of simple and story kinda slow and the whole rasta monsta thing dragged out for to long but it was well made. There is definately room for a show like this in the world. Especially when theres so much crap.

Im a Brit, I dont really care for the whole "hipster" culture of my country or anywhere else, or fashion but this show had me watching non stop both series for 2 days. I loved the way it felt like the makers of the show had played allot of GTA. It looked just like GTA 4, and even abit of lost and damned and gay tony. For instance the clubs and the russian sauna are straight pulled from GTA IV. And the music also felt pulled from gta, I heard "destination unknown" on gta VCS, and I re discovered the awesome hip hop song deja vu by peter gunz and lord tariq. Luis Guzmán is cool too, and as a massive fan of carlitos way and big pun I like seeing Puerto Ricans (or German *beep* why are they called German *beep* lol) in stuff. Theres practically no P.R movies apart from Empire and Carlitos way to my knowledge. Oh and the girl that plays the lesbian daughter is beautiful.

It looked like allot of care went into the locations, the clothing, the sets, the way it was filmed, the photography, the vehicles, the music. The characters were mostly likable to, and fine girls in it to. I really want to go to NY/USA now, I cant afford to go currently but one day im gonna go and ride the subway, eat hot dogs, (i dont even smoke) smoke newports, swisher sweets, drink a 40, eat pretzels, visit diners, go and see the big pun mural, eat some puerto rican food, ride a bike round the city, get a cab ride, drink at an irish bar, go central park, play stick ball, watch kids play with fire hydrants, buy some fake goods off the street, even try my hand at basketball.

Ok I might not manage all those things but thanks to this show I feel like ive visited abit of NY already.

reply

There's a reason why it felt like GTA to you. It's because Rockstar did a great job of detailing and capturing the essence of NYC. The creators of HTMIIA did the same thing.

This show captured New York, being young, and trying to be something in the city perfectly. The essence of youth and hip culture was overwhelmingly correct on this show. Unfortunately, not many people get it. I'll definitely miss this show. The clothes, the music, the casting, etc was pretty spot on. When I hear the title song in other ads I get really bummed because I know this show doesn't exist anymore and I never got to see the full potential. Hopefully another network will pick it up. I'm glad HBO is taking chances on original shows but they need to follow through. Their loss will hopefully be another networks gain.

I just only hope Girls doesn't suffer the same fate HTMIIA. There's a huge backlash on these kinds of shows because people just don't get it. It's not just about hipsters and blah blah blah. This is just who young Americans are. Love it or hate it, it's real. These are accurate depictions. It may not be apart of your life or interests but it exists and it's nice to see it depicted on television, film, etc.
