most 'dialed in' movie ever?

Like. Was anyone trying here? Half effort writing and performances all around. seems like everyone really put it into cruise control and expected a hit.

I don't always post on IMDB.com, but when I do I make sure I'm hammered.

Ben Stiller was obviously putting some effort in. And Vince Vaughn looked like he didn't give a rat's ass, but thats his character. The laid-back, cool, smooth-talking, neurotic man-child he always plays. He was just doing his role.

Jonah Hill did look bored. But I've always considered him criminally over-rated. The fact he got an Oscar nomination for that cartoon character in Wolf of Wall Street says something really pathetic about the Oscars.

And the other guy was..... okay? I guess? We'll probably never see him anything ever again.

The script was pretty weak but a movie like this doesn't really require a tight script. Its a loose comedy about a group of losers fighting aliens and there was obviously a lot of improvising going on.

The 'other guy' is Richard Ayoade and he is generally hilarious. He's one of the stars of a show called The IT Crowd, if you haven't watched it you definitely should it's brilliant and in real life he has an amazing deadpan style of comedy. He's also a writer and director and he's made some excellent movies. So he really can't be blamed if this movie was generally below par. In fact, none of the actors really can be blamed for the movie being bad considering they're all obviously talented which is shown in their other movies. I don't think actors always realise when a movie is going to turn out bad while they're making it.

The `other guy` was the only good thing about this movie.

Jonah Hill spent half the movie just nodding to whatever Vince Vaughn said. Although I enjoyed the movie, his performance was definitely phoned in.

I think it was a tour de force from R. Lee Ermey- he took a lot of chances and showed true range in his acting with that role.

You're thinking of 'Oceans 12'.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

"Dialed in" is actually a complimentary term. It is sometimes used to describe athletes who are having good games.

The correct term to use where would be "phoning it in"...which refers to giving a lackluster / half-assed job.

Yeah, he should've said 'phoned in' I think.

On paper this movie has a great cast, and really should be this decades Dodgeball.... yet does not work in any way.

Feels like it was completely written on the spot.....when it turned out Richard Ayoade was a alien I was like "riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!" as they felt so forced in at the last minute.

Richard Ayoade was just being Richard Ayoade..... he is brilliant in IT Crowd, but his style is basically the way he lives his life and can become very boring over time.

Stiller is pretty much the same.... you see one of his movies and you have basically seen them all.

Vaughn went through the whole movie with this feeling of "can I get my cheque now please!"

Hill should have been the saving grace of this movie, and does put in a good effort, but you can tell by half way through the movie he is thinking "I turned down a part in Django for this?????"

no one tried except lee r ermy and will forte. unfortunately they have two of the smallest roles in this. this really is Hollywood at it's worst. i mean the only way it could have been worse is if it was really annoying. but it's annoying in how it's painfully unfunny.
