Was going to be a classic but ended up above average...

This film has a lot going for it, and am very glad it was made,
But it does lose the plot quite literally,in all manner of ways.
A crying shame as parts of film are pretty intense. And suceed in the wicker man/don't look now crossover.
Timothy Spall is extremly good as the leader.

Worse than average.

I have to disagree with the folks who hated it. It's been so long since I've seen a horror movie that was watchable, and this one was actually entertaining! (and yes, I may have lowered by standards) but I liked the story because it felt like a folk tale. The grieving parents who turn to black magic, and don't follow the rules, or think about what the decision will really mean. Someone mentioned PS and monkeys paw, this IS a lot like those. I felt like it was scary story you could hear told around the fire. I'm not going to say there were not plot holes, most horrors movies have many, but overall I have to say I enjoyed it. Obviously it's a matter of opinion.

I liked it as well! What was cool about this flick was that it was all at once modern, AND it also had the feel of 1960's era Hammer. The isolated little village, the occult practices by the whole townsfolk... All of it was both fresh & classic.
The storyline itself wasn't anything extraordinary (see Pet Sematary... Not exactly the same, but enough similarities to warrant a comparison...) But who cares... This film might not have been the Citizen Kane of horror films, but it was damn fun. It was never boring... It entertained... Just as a good film should do.

Trust me,

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

I found there to be too much animal happenings going on. Other than that I enjoyed it.
