Khosala Ka Ghosala was excellent. I expected something similar from this one as well but that wasnt the case. Movie is utterly stupid. You will laugh at various instances but in all, the movie didnt make any sense.

Even I disagree completely... It was a very mature character study.. far superior to all other HIndi masala flicks .. probably the best movie of the year for me...

Actually, I find this movie better than Khosla Ka Ghosla...very mature, fast paced and good acting. The heart of Delhi has been brought out in the accents and thinking of these characters. Way above typical dumbed down bollywood fare.

reply

Well you cant expect this movie to be like Khosala ka Ghosala. Its not a sequel of that.
This movie, the cast, the screenplay and the way its made speaks for itself. I recon it’s the best movie so far this year. I would rather watch this movie then watching typical bollywood masala.

I disagree to with the OP. Enough people have already conveyed what I want to.. watched it today and enjoyed it thoroughly.

reply

Not everyone will like the movie. The movie was brilliant and will be something I'll be watching many a time in the future as well

reply

WHy expect similar? This guy, Dibakar, has talent to dish out different fares everytime, so why settle for the same old thing?

It's good that OLLO is different from KKG. And refreshingly so. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rarely do we get to see Delhi in Hindi movies.

Some of my friends also didn't like the movie and I think the reason why any body wouldn't like this movie is simply because they don't get it. I mean, yes you enjoy the movie, laugh at the situations, feel weirdly happy or affectionate if you are a Delhiite, but basically dont get what's the point of it all!

I think that's because one doesn't easily get the film because it is not an easy film where everything is given to the audience on a platter- instead they have to fill up the gaps themselves. One recurring theme is that of differences in the class and the want to be a part of the "gentry" (lol ;); then again it is not a typical con movie per se... even superior to movies like Catch Me If you Can, too different from Bunty aur Babli, which also dealt with the same class aspirations but in such an innocent manner that it was hard to take it seriously.

Whereas you don't feel bad for many con men in the movies because they are glamourised, you do feel bad for Lucky coz you understand that he is basically on his own surrounded by people who will either shun him (his family) or take advantage of him... either disguised as patronising patriarchal affection (gogi bhai); with no amount of self-respect and openly using him (bangali); or again patronising affection- this time as a sophisticated elder brother (Handa).

I rate it 9. And you cant really compare it to Khosla ka Ghosla... whereas that film also showed Delhi in its real self- the plot was a total fantasy- what Dibakar Banerji himself called a payoff.

I also found that those who didn't like the movie are all generally people who haven't seen; or haven't seen and liked anything apart from Bollywood masala films where everything is familiar and you derive comfort from that familiarity... where you watch a movie because you know the star, understand the inside of it, production values (though admittedly important) are more important than plot sense etc.

I know I just took a very broad sweeping generalisation... hey but they are accurate sometimes and its much more easier than to actually think mre over this. After all stereotypes are there for a reason... they make the job of classifyibg people easy for you. And I stopped making sense.
Well, enough said.

You know, as much as people disagree with the thread (I do to), I'd like to remind everyone that quite a number of people said something similar when Farhan Akhtar came out with the superb 'Lakshya' after his debut DCH. Just goes to show that a section of the audience expects a filmmaker to make the same kinda movie again and again, and theres nothing anyone can do about that. Theres also the a section that loves melodramatic/over-the-top films and theres nothing anyone can do about that either. Well, I don't belong to either.
I thoroughly enjoyed OLLO, and to be frank, I would give it a cult status. I had no idea what the story was about nor did I know the complete cast. All I knew was that it was from the guy who made KKG, and that it had Abhay Deol in it. Thats all it took. Abhay Deol's performance didnot come as a surprise to me, as I've been a fan of his work since his debut film Socha Na Tha, which I watched only because I had nothing better to do with my time. While SNT itself was fine enough, it was Abhay Deol's performance that caught my eye.
I'm looking forward to DevD.

Heres to more such cinema. {clink}

Even i think that the movie is a masterpiece. acting by abhay deol is excellent and the other actors also fully justify their characters.songs are also very good.
And yes, great movies like Zakhm,Lakshya,Swades weren't well received by audiences ,but they are all-time great movies. If Indian audiences cant judge a good movie, its their fault, not the movie's.

its not only delhi people who will get this film, I liked it too, I am from mumbai!

Why...So..Serious? Let's put a smile on that face of yours!

your comments are crap! are you on weed?

This movie does leave a lot unresolved, and while it's OK to leave something for the audience to fill in, just how much is a matter of argument.

What happened to his girlfriend? Did he get married? Did he really let his best friend get away with betrayal? What about the vet?

This is not a tv serial but a movie. even if there may be a sequel, it's not fair to leave the audience wondering about so many things which had focus for a large part of the movie.

reply

spathi.. the movie was never about "what happens to bangali?", "what about the girlfriend?", "what about gogi bhai etc etc?". those characters very comprehensively finished off their roles in the movie. if you didn't get it, it doesn't mean it's a gap. the film doesn't even need a sequel.

Actually that marriage was not his. It was his older brother's marriage....
