Actually, within my interpretation, I perceived the experiment to consist of a representation of how people will act if Global Warming is not assuaged or truncated soon. Notwithstanding my personal sentiment on the notion of man-made 'Global Warming,' I was under the impression that the chaos throughout the experiment consisted of the scientist's extrapolations of human inclination, action, and behavioral dynamics pertinent to what the world should 'expect' if we don't stop proverbially 'destroying the earth.' I do not think this is the primary/cardinal aspect of the film's essence, but as per what Kilmer conveyed, this is how I perceived the Global-Warming incorporation. Who knows, though...
