The Communists' Dilema
The depiction of the Communists in the series is interesting. The reasons for anyones being in the resistance could be patriotic, or humanitarian. The Communists are bound also by doctrine and party discipline. Their discipline could help them in their dangerous underground struggle and existence, but, it can also hamstring them. Their doctrine can put them in blinders, or result in fanaticism, a fault of the fascists they're fighting against. I wonder, though, how genuine the representation in this series is. Did the writers assume as much or is it well researched?
