I've seen both and I don't really know which one to choose

Evil Dead 2013 for me

I'm gonna actually be honest and go with The Evil Dead (2013) remake I just like it more than the original the original is kinda boring and cheesy for me.

reply

That's the same way I rated them!

The original is overrated. I remember seeing it when I was like 11 and I was bored...I was bored again when I watched it before the remake came out, but I was able to appreciate it more.

The remake was just awesome. If the remake came out in 1981, and the original came out in 2013, everyone would be saying how great the "original" is. Just because it was the first, doesn't mean it was the best.

Easily the original, though the remake is quite good as well.

The remake.

The original was silly and boring as hell. As an 80s baby, I thought it absolutely terrible. The remake was more so for ppl of my generation, it had funny points that didn't get ridiculous and SCARY. They used every origin or horror, it that Creep factor, blood and guts as well as jump scares.

Me too, I watched the 2013 version last night & thought it was quite good. But it has a similar look to other recently made horror films I have seen.
The original always stood out to me & of course it has the debut of one of my favourite characters in Ash Williams.

I prefer the original. The remake comes across as a gore fest, whereas the original did better in creating a suspenseful atmosphere.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

How can you say that???

The original was so silly, with the cheap $1.99 Halloween makeup kit the silly "scary scenes" and all that....Lets be honest...even by 80's standards, that movie was bad...That at the time, it made a cult following and was able to become one of those so bad is good movies is a whole nother thing, but to say the original is better in creating a suspenseful atmosphere, with all the bad fx, acting and camerawork and that the remake is a gore fest is just plain silly...Or do you think Raimi was not targeting a gore fest while making those tree raping scenes and the burnt face, and the cutting the arms and stuff all over the original??? That they did not have the budget to make it right is another thing..But the original was indeed a silly attempt into a gore fest 80's horror movie....

The remake is better than the original in every way.
Better acting, better script, better dialogue, better character development, more suspenseful, better soundtrack, better practical effects etc

I don't think that's true at all. The remake clearly had more money spent on it and, superficially, it is largely the better of the two as a result. However, it's not as inventive, its camerawork is far more conventional and less interesting as a result, its lead actor is far less charismatic and, at least in my opinion, its lacking the same haunting atmosphere of the first.

I love both films, for the record. I'd definitely side with the first film over the remake, though.
