Patrick was an arrogant, self centred pr*ck...but that said he was the one and only member of the remaining survivors that we saw in the house that actually had the nerve or initiative to actually be proactive and try and come up of a plan to get out of the house.
Except he didn't really have a plan. He had no idea where he was going to go, he just wanted to force them all to do what he wanted. He was a complete moron and the kind of dangerous liability you'd be better off killing, because you know his stubborness and selfishness will wind up getting you ALL killed.
What were they going to do if and when they ran out of water? Drink each others p*ss!
It's called rain. You place buckets and bowls outdoors, like on the roof for example. It rains. You collect the buckets and store the water. Voila!
And what about when they ran out of food?
If you had paid closer attention to the film, you'd know they had the means to grow their own food there.
They could have stayed there comfortably for months. They could have also tried to put some kind of message up on the roof, saying 'Survivors here, HELP', or something, in case a rescue team would fly by sometime.
I'm not saying they should have stayed forever and just waited for help, but considering the pandemic was running rampant and the world was filled with aggressive cannibals, they might have wanted to stay a little longer, and really prepare themselves and think through their options carefully before making any rash decisions to leave. Unfortunately, with a dangerous and manipulative hothead like Patrick around, that was impossible.
