Jackie Chan....why... =(

Jackie Chan is my favorite martial arts/action star and i've loved pretty much everything he has ever been in. Something like this movie turns up and you think, WTF.
i can't understand how Jackie Chan could choose to be Dwayne Johnson's replacement for these kind of movies.
It's almost degrading to the viewers to have to watch something like this crap with said "action star" slapped on like a sticker. Almost to the point of exploitative. "oh instead of the rock, lets get a freaking action star to lead the comedy. hmm jackie chan? people will think its funny cuz he cant speak perfect english and he makes funny faces when he fights. PERFECT!"
i liked him alot in The Tuxedo and even his role in the upcoming Karate Kid might be bearable(just for him) but gosh- why, Jackie, why?
ill still see this though.. :-/

Who said anything about him being a replacement? Do you only like actors who are one dimensional and play the same kind of characters over and over again?

reply

I kept thinking the same, but have resigned myself to the fact that despite all my misgivings it made my kids laugh and they enjoyed it. That has to be worth something I figure. And it gave my the chance to yell "OMG that's Billy Ray Cyrus/Sportacus!" lots of times.

talking about Jackie Chan + Hollywood-

Hollywood is a bloodsucking vampire sucking out the blood of Jackie

P.s. I will never watch the new Karate Kid and I'm sorry for everyone who must and doesn't have the chance growing up with what this movie really was

OP is totally correct.

I was so disappointed at this film. Everything is bad, plot, logic, character design. And I'm going to kill the costume designer.

I didn't think Jackie Chan is that desperate to just take any crappy script.
*sigh* He is ruining his reputation.

J Chan's acting is atrocious in this film . . . Any hope or potential it had was lost through his dreadful performance.

He may well be one of the greats of the martial arts genre and as such he would be wise to limit his choice of film should to that.

I *beep* hate Jackie Chan's Hollywood image nowadays. In here, producers always want him to be the cute, loveable goofball who winds up in some goofy situation with no edge or intensity whatsoever. I missed it when Jackie was half-badass and half-goofball in the 80's HK films. And yeah, Jackie's performance was obviously phoned in in this movie.

I haven't seen Jingle All the Way(or any of these other movies you mentioned) but I think I might like it after watching Nostalgia Critic's review because of all the hilarious over-acting Arnold moments. Though, Jake Lloyd's presence might tick me off.
