Aren't MEN bothered by these kind of women?

So, this chick that dumps a guy (and for good reason), tells him to hit the road and he cannot see her boy ever again..."if you love us you will leave." A short time later, she has the unmitigated arrogance to walk up to him, out of the blue, and is looking for a story a year later? Folks, just a year before, she stuck a knife right into his heart, turned around, and locked him out of her life.

All she wants from him is to use him for a story, to further her career, to get more money...so, she puts on the cutsey, I am just an innocent little girl face on and walks up to him...for what reasons one must ask? To show off her engagement ring? To "get the story," which is nothing more than a selfish and self centered reason. That bothers me. That a woman can give him the boot (again, for good reason), but then thinks she has the "right" to ask him for a story, that all is forgiven as long as she puts on a cute smile? To forget about that knife still sticking out of his chest? She refued to forgive him/give him a 2nd chance & gave him the boot. Why should he give her a 2nd chance? Especially knowing her only reason for being there is to use him. Absurd.

Fair is fair, I would have reminded her of HER words, "If you love me, you will leave now." At the very least...she should have started with some sort of an apology, but Nooooooo, she starts right in with her selfish... I need a story reasons. The real Bad (and a good writer) would have wished her and Buddy well and been on his way. Or better yet, his new lady would walk up to him, give him a kiss and off they go. He owes her nothing, but reminding her of her choice, just a year ago. Bad does have a Crazy Heart for giving in like that.

Blake should have punched her and that turd of a kid of hers in the face. Gyllenhall is a disgrace to acting

1. She was equally at fault for leaving her son alone with the guy. She knew he was an alcoholic.

2. That's who she probably really couldn't forgive, herself.

3. It would've been stupid for her to forgive him after just a few months of sobriety -- he could easily relapse.

4. It was, however, also stupid not to wait and see if he really changed. Her son wasn't really actually hurt, and if he stayed sober for a couple years, then it would've made sense to try again.

5. That said, she wasn't just using him -- she wanted to see him, because she still cared for him.

6. And he couldn't really blame her for not forgiving him instantly -- he broke the one rule she had about not drinking in front of him, and could've gotten her son lost/killed. Getting engaged to someone else that quickly, maybe...

(Fwiw, it was a year and a half after their last meeting, not just one year.)

I think both had were to blame. Jean took a risk by hooking up with him, she knew he was a unstable man.

But eventually she knew she had to forgive him. Her son wasn't hurt or anything, she couldn't stay angry for ever

I agree with you in a way, but your sentence "Aren't MEN bothered by these kind of women?" sounds sort of odd and bitter. I'll remind you it's a fictional character in a film, using her to reflect your opinion on 'these kind of women' doesn't make sense. A better scene would have been for her to invite him in and tell him why she doesn't want to see him again then ask him to leave. Slamming the door in his face when he said he was sober after decades of alcoholism and was sorry sort of ruined the ending slightly when she blatantly cadged him for an interview. It might have maintained her characters high ground and shown why he was attracted to her grace while giving more depth to his redemption.

Although they could have scripted in a scene like this where he loses his rag and kicks in the door: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lts518-WsPM

So what was the name of the person who left the knife sticking out of your chest and left you so bitter?

Life is all about forgiving, after all.

Jean couldn't stay angry for ever. St some point she had to let it go.

totally agree! And I am not a misogynist. I am a women, and there are a lot of women out there just like this one in the movie. Egoism is big in the first world. Jeff Bridges was the only good thing in this boring movie with kinda absurd story.

I think the op is one of those people who thinks a woman must be absolutely perfect and forgiving of a total disgusting *beep* or else she is a "bitch."

I guess the meaning behind this is to show us that Bad Blake has indeed turned his life around for good.

Remember how his own son didn't want to talk to him or give him a second chance and while Bad was on the fishing trip his friend says now it's his son who's in the wrong now since Bad had tried to correct it. However Bad knows that it ain't that easy to forget everything and give another chance.

So here when Jean comes back, whatever her motive maybe, Bad sees it as a chance to redeem himself, to be on the right, by being good.

Hope this makes sense.
