An underrated Indie masterpiece

I can't believe all the negative reviews and bashing feedback this film received. In my opinion, it's a masterpiece. I mean, seriously, I can't even tell you how many times I've watched it, and with each viewing, it seems to just get even better. There's something so special, rare, and unique about this film. It took me a while to understand the meaning within the story. And even though there are certain aspects to the film that definitely could've been improved, like some of the acting, the camera quality, and overall production...it's still one of my favorites. In a strange way, the subtle imperfections is what actually makes this film great. If that makes sense.

The way I interpret the film is...it's a metaphor for manhood, becoming a man. In the beginning, Woodrow and Aiden seem to be these careless childlike characters, who are sort of stuck in the past, being obsessed with Mad Max, the apocalypse, fast cars, and building a flamethrower. They're sort of living in this manic fantasy world of their own. But this fantasy world collides with the complexities and harsh truths of reality; getting involved with relationship drama, alcoholism, adulthood, insanity, and rage. Watching this film kind of seems like a manic / schizophrenic experience, coming from Woodrow's perspective. It shows the process of a mental breakdown. But with this mental breakdown, comes the emergence (the birth) of Woodrow's new personality...the personality as Lord Humongous. It kind of reminds me of Fight Club in some ways. But that's how I interpret the story and the main character. But I could be wrong. There are probably many other details that I didn't pick up on.

I really liked the direction of the story, the trippy and strange sequence of events, the entrancing cinematography, the music, and the bizarre development of the main character. I think many years from now, this film will receive more recognition as a unique Indie masterpiece. I personally just think the film is very misunderstood and clearly has been overlooked. I really hope that the director / leading actor, Evan Glodell, pursues his film career even further. He seems like a very interesting director.
