The gay scene made no sense....

It seemed as if it was there just for the sake of it....why would a man who has sex with women, all of a sudden decide to be gay?

This is the only version I've seen where this action happens. In the others Basil has the hots for Dorian but keeps it under wraps, so this doesn't happen between them.

However, since Dorian is a complete hedonist he will try anything at least once.

Watch the shower scene in the Helmut Berger / Herbert Lom version then.

The entire point of the story is that Dorian, with his immortality and beauty, can have anything he wants, and basically gets power-hungry. He wants to try everything, at once. Every drug, every drink, every sin and vice he can find.
So he also experiences every sexual encounter he possibly can.
So it's not so much 'turning gay', as much as it is Dorian wanting to experience another new thing. Basil did nothing but gush over him, so it's a safe assumption that Basil was possibly gay, possibly just bi, but definitely had some sort of attraction to Dorian. That being guessed by both us, and Dorian himself, it's clear Dorian just wanted to try something new.

Because he wasn't gay.

He was bisexual.
