Robocop 2 isn't a bad movie by any means, Peter Weller was great in the role, The problem with the film it relied to much on the violence! Okay I get the first one was violent too but it had one major thing Murphy regaining his humanity. As he slowly starts to remember who he is, the man himself is back! The robotic voiced he had when he was turned into Robocop had gone completely once he killed Dick Jones..
Also the original was a satire of 80's America, Down to big cars which low MPG, 6000 SUX a american tradition! corporate greed! Also Paul Verhoven put a lot of religious themes running through it, the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus is plainly obvious! You even have Robocop walking on water at one point! It's one of the reason why he made the film.
Robocop 2 ignored the fact Murphy regained his humanity and it should of expanded on it further, They turned Murphy basically into a staker! By driving passed his family house every day but they had idea's but chose to delete them which should've been in the film, Like him visiting his grave in vision while he was being dismantle by Cane! Or the shower scene in the police station..
The subject of Humanity was sort of touched upon and then forgotten about until the last line of the film...
I think Robocop 2 overall is a okay film probably the last true Robocop film it had great action, some dark humour and excellent stop motion work from Phil Tippett but it has a lot of issues in the regards of the story..
It still had the satire, Sun block 5000 just apply a pint to your body and your good for hours!
Robocop 3 is well crap only decent thing in that film was the return of the original theme
Would I say Robocop 2 is fantastic Sequel? No I wouldn't but I would call it a good sequel
