RoboCop 2014 is the worst remake ever made.
The Point Break remake is forgotten about now as well.
Keep it up studios!

There are some things that I liked better about the reboot
1) More detail was shown about what was left of Alex Murphy
2) More detail was shown about his development and weapons training, and how he worked (ie. the software and hardware was explained in detail).
3) His wife stayed with him instead of just taking off like she did in the original, in fact she went out of her way to find him
4) Better F/X although I'm not sure if this is fair because real-life F/X technology got considerably better in 27 years.
5) Better musical score.
Here's what I liked better about the original
1) The plot and villians were cut and dried: You knew who the enemy was.

1. see below
2. More detail made it more boring just like this entire remake. The original RoboCop- give him the gun and introduce to him to his fellow cops in the most bad ass way ever.
3. His wife was annoying in this. I wish she would have left him earlier. This remake was "family drama RoboCop"
4. Maybe better FX for you. I still think the puppet ED-209 looks better and moves more realistically than CGI everything.
5. No
I thought the 2014 movie had more HUMSAN elements than the 87 movie because after they made him robocop; he visited his wife; son; enter acted with them; even mad jokes so why do some people feel the 87 movie was better?
shareThe human elements were boring and sappy in the remake.
The original RoboCop is one of the best movies ever made. Why do you think it's better? There are too many iconic scenes to explain.
Making robo more human is boring sappy? NOT in my freaking book !
shareSometimes less is more though. There is a quick scene in the original RoboCop where he returns to his old house and thinks back about his family. This scene was more powerful than the bad acting family drama in the remake.
shareDid you just said that in the original, his wife left Alex Murphy? Correct me if I'm wrong but clearly, in original, his wife thought that he was killed and it wasn't until his wife discovered that Alex is alive in part 2.
Get your facts straight next time you watch Robocop 1-2.
Its one of them along with Total Recall and Nightmare on Elm Street.
shareI have not seen those ones yet.. I have seen some of the Total Recall remake on TV, but I change the channel pretty quickly.
shareVery wise.
shareI guess most everyone likes the 87 film because it was rated either nc-17 or r and they rather violence than more human elements from alex ?
shareMost people seem to prefer the original because it actually had something to say.
Hidden under the violence is a deep satire, and commentary on corporate society/entities at the time (and now).
The violence is completely OTT, but fitted the story that was being told.
Here rating was the most important thing, even if it damaged the film.
I didn't even bother watching the Total Recall remake. I'm too devoted to the original.
However, I think this version of Robocop was decent. Better than the other crap remakes Hollywood has put out in the last 5-6 years.
It's one of the better ones. It's still not as good as the original, but there's no shame in that!
Anybody who thinks RoboCop 3 - or even RoboCop 2 - were better than this must have one serious pair of nostalgia goggles on!
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"
Well, I disagree with the main idea that it's the worst remake ever made. There are PLENTY that take the cake on this in terms of terrible remakes - Psycho, Swept Away, The Bad News Bears, The Wicker Man, The Invasion, Arthur, Clash of the Titans, Burton's Planet of the Apes, The Stepford Wives, or The Truth About Charlie are terrible films regardless of being compared to the original.
Now, let's talk comparisons. I liked the original Robocop, but I don't get why everyone was head over heels with loving the film. I watched the original before taking a look at the remake and I thought it was a fun 80s film but nothing more, especially since the social satire was as subtle as a brick being hurled through a window (Verhoeven's best work is still with Starship Troopers).
The new Robocop film adds a lot more character, story, and much more fascinating themes to make the audience dig a little deeper in terms of his wondering how humanity is left with Murphy.
I find the action scenes are more exciting, especially since they're not the really dated stop-motion effects. I thought the cast was far more rounded than the original, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much from the remake given all the negativity towards it, and turned out VERY pleasantly surprised
I would quite easily put it alongside Dredd, King Kong, True Grit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and 3:10 to Yuma as a remake (or different adaptation depending on your categorization) that surpassed the original.
Kellum, is that you?
...
The new RoboCop had bad video game action scenes. The dated stop-motion effects are so much better than the cartoonish CGI in the remake. This PG-13 RoboCop remake belongs on no list next to the awesome Dredd. It belongs on the list of remakes that were completely ruined by the studios right next to the Point Break remake.
The characters and the story were lame in the remake.
Ok, I disagree.
Kellum, is that you?
...
Ghostbusters 2016 might top RubberCop 2014.
shareyup. Is the new Ghostbusters considered a remake or a reboot?
shareIt's both. A remake and a reboot.
RubberCop wasn't great but at least it wasn't a parody like GB2016 will be. Imagine Scooby Doo 2 visuals (if you watch the trailer it looks as though GB2016 plagiarised it) with Spy 'comedy' and thus far you have GB2016.
Eh, I wouldn't call it the worst remake ever made, but it is close. I can think two or three recent ones that are even worse. Horror films especially take the cake.
And although it has been said a million times already - STOP IT WITH THE STUPID REMAKES ALREADY HOLLYWOOD! Enough is enough!
