These films were divergent in style, it's hard to really say "this is the best," so I kind of rated differently

1) Butterfly Effect 3 (overall best movie - the only one I could really see having success as its own theatrical film - but it's NOT a horror movie)

2) From Within (scariest and creepiest, but didn't like the religious wacko stereotype thing)

3) The Broken (Best total production value -ie, acting, camera, editing . . .)

4) Autopsy (Best all-out horror flick - more "fun" than all the others)

5) Voices (Not bad for Asian, but had alot of pointless moments)

6) Dying Breed (can't believe how many people liked this one. I liked it for awhile, but once the killing started, it went downhill fast)

7) Slaughter (pure crap, but some of the scenes showed promise for future projects from the director - mostly the final two minutes)

8) Perkins 14 (pure crap, and just pure crap from start to finish. Terrible acting, STUPID STUPID characters doing STUPID STUPID things . . . the kind of film a junior high class would make with a home video camera)

Just telling it like it is

1. Dying Breed 8/10 (I was pretty impressed by this; the best After Dark film other than The Hamiltons)

2. The Butterfly Effect 3 7/10 (I never would have thought I would enjoy a Butterfly Effect film)

3. The Broken 7/10 (Predictable, but it was made with such fine style)

4. Voices 6/10 (Borderline decent horror movie that suffers from a lack of explanation)

5. Perkins' 14 4/10 (A great idea totally blown)

6. Slaughter 4/10 (A louse from start to finish)

7. Autopsy 2/10 (I saved this for last thinking it would be the best of this year's 8; how wrong I was)

8. From Within 2/10 (Absolute, unwatchable dreck; the worst After Dark movie yet; even worse than Autopsy and last year's Lake Dead; that's stiff competition)
