Mia was too young for the dance audition anyway

The flyer clearly said they were looking for dancers 17 and older to mail in an audition tape. Plus she looked at least 17. So I was under the impression for most of the movie that Mia was at least 17. But towards the end of the movie it was revealed that her character was supposed to be 15.
