Better choices for guitarists?

I mean, I see how they went for versatility, but I think there could have been better choices than The Edge and Jimmy Page. Personally I'd rather it have been Jack White, Robbie Robertson, and Jonny Greenwood.

Pete Townshend, Clapton, and Chuck Berry would also be great choices, but I feel like they've been covered in their guitar playing genius.

Charlie_Brown, how the hell are King Crimson or Yes terrible? Sure they're technically proficient, but the songs they wrote and recorded during prog. rock's heyday (1969-1974) were oftentimes just as catchy and emotion-conveying as the stuff you happen to like.

For Christ's sake man, if you really want to hate progressive rock bands for pompisity and pretention, atleast hate one the ones who really ARE overblown, emotionless and wank-saturated (Emerson Lake & Palmer, Dream Theater, etc). Why go out of your way to hate on groups from that scene who actually did some really good *beep*

Thanks, houlgrave.

It's ridiculous how many people complain about Yes being "pompous studied classical jerk-offs," yet 4/5ths of the band could not read or write music. I have Howe's Guitar Pieces book, and it's full of mistakes!

But that's common with a lot of complex music.

And even ELP did Lucky Man, which is still a great, simple song. No bombast. Emerson was merely fiddling with the Moog which just arrived, and they recorded him improvising. And that's what went down on tape. But they did get more pretentious, later...

The really funny thing is now I can play all of these songs I always wanted to play, but a lot of that audience is no longer near. You grow up, you move away from school (hopefully). And a new audience develops.

Meg-alicious can play whatever he wants. I'm just amazed how many think he's going to be the next legend. Of what? Certainly didn't influence me, and I know many guitarists who also don't get it. Sears should start selling amplifiers again - they have their new spokesmodel.

Yeah, they are overblown, emotionless and wank-saturated.

If you haven't heard more than 5 of their songs.

Uh, I hate you. Jimmy Page is so much better than Clapton and Townshend- which I can't fathom you picking. Go listen to some Rock. Listen Zeppelin, particularly the lesser known work, and then listen to The Who or Cream/Derek and the Dominos- Please.

I would've liked to have seen either of the two dudes from Sonic Youth in there, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo

Better choice than Edge - anybody.
Better than Jimmy - what are you talking about?

Keith Richards
Pete Townshend
Eric Clapton
Jeff Beck
Eddie Van Halen
Tony Iommi
Ritchie Blackmore
Brian May
Joe Perry
Alex Lifeson
Lindsey Buckingham
Slash
Carlos Santana
Nancy Wilson or Chrissie Hynde or Lita Ford (would have been interesting to have a woman; Joni Mitchell's also an incredible guitarist, but she would have been out of place here)

They did indeed go for variety here, but I think limiting it to three very different people — and having them interact and jam — made for an awkward documentary in my opinion. 6/10 stars from me.
