Completely shat on original show/ characters

I like this show as its own separate series, and even though it was exciting to see old characters in season 1, it totally was NOT worth it. Let's review...
Kelly: not with Dylan or Brandon, Still fighting with
Brenda over guys, disappears/ abandons her high school sister.

Dylan: Deadbeat dad who STILL can't commit.

Brenda: UGH! This was especially painful because Brenda was and IS my all time fave. This show made Brenda... Boring. Worse than that, her storylines were lame. Her love triangle with Mr Mathews? Who cares?!! Her relationship
with Adrianna was her only semi interesting
story.

Donna & David: What was the point of breaking them up?! Tori was on this show for two episodes... WHY?!?!?!?!

Nat: Totally caved, and made the peach pit some trendy cafe, and apparently couldn't manage to keep it open (if he did he lost his customers after season one).

Mel: who? LOL this didn't bother me that much... But did he actually abandon and never speak to his family again?! REALLY?!

Jackie: This one was probably the worst. Not because Jackie was a fan favorite (I liked her just fine) but the writers shat on her more so than anyone else. While real life alcoholics do sometimes have relapses, it really wasn't necessary to go there with Jackie. We watched her raise Kelly (and lil Erin Silver) and overcome her problems. She was a good mom. To make matters worse, THEY KILLED HER!

Anyone else agree that they should have either given us cute cameos that show us what we WANTED to see OR just leave the old cast out of it?

To be fair, he pretty much was a jerk on the original show.

Jackie was awful when she was off her wagon on the original show. Certainly not the perfect mom and I could easily see how she could relapse. I didn't mind them killing her off as it made for a dramatic storyline at least.

Agree with a lot of this. I wasn't a huge fan of the original, cause I was so young when it aired, but I did see some episodes. It's obvious that they tried to please both old and new fans of the show, and when they realized they needed to shift their focus in S2, they just took those characters away. I did like Kelly though, up until she just vanishes from the show and Silver's life, even though Silver lives in her garage and goes through both a bipolar relapse, cancer scare and that whole (DUMB) baby thing alone... It would have been better if the original cast guest starred for like a couple episodes or something, not getting bad endings.

thought they should have had the original cast as the parents/adults....and bring back a guest star. I'm still convinced that they were trying to do something with the African American family who moved in next to the Walshes.....and who we then never hear from again.

Well, this was a prime chance. Either Sherice or Robbie (Robbinson Ashe III) becomes a parent. I was dying to find out what happened to them and their inheritance from dad's popcorn company.

They also could have added D'Shawn Hardell....who had to become a tough as nails teacher at West Beverly after being unable to be a big time basketball player. Would have been interesting.

Instead they created all-new characters with zero background/zero connection.
