Vimes

Paul Darrow for Vimes

reply

Personally I think he is too old but then I would rather see Hugh Laurie play Vimes so I am a bit biassed anyway.

reply

There is only one Vimes and that's Hugh Laurie.

reply

Hugh Laurie? Well, I suppose when you think of his House performance, yes. He's good at playing characters who do what works, rather than what's polite.

"Me! Ha!"

reply

I could totally see Sean Bean do Vimes. :P

reply

Daniel Craig?

reply

I think in the latest SFX magazine PTerry says that Jason Flemyng would be spot on as Sam Vimes. I've always imagined him more like Sean Bean.

reply

Ever since reading "Where Is My Cow" I can't help but picture Pete Postlethwaite whenever I read a book with Vimes.

reply

Terry has often said that in his head Vimes looks like Pete Postlethwaite.

reply

Unfortunately the Postlethwaite in my head is Obadaiah Hakeswill from the Sharpe's movies, and that makes him completetly wrong (in my head) for Vimes. I do think Sean Bean would be a great Vimes...but probably out of the price range for actors in these films.

reply

Sean Bean just doesn't seem the right age for me.
Postlethwaite is just not Vimes, there is no way I could ever see him that role!

Does anyone else think the Tamsin Grieg is not really the right choice for Sacharissa, she doesn't look at all right to me and it not young enough.

reply

Great call! I had to look up Pete Postlethwaite as I had no idea who he was - but as soon as I saw his picture I not only recognised the actor, but recognised him as the actor I had always envisioned in my mind as Vimes when reading the books!

reply

Paul Darrow has already played Vimes, albeit on stage rather than on TV.

There was a professional UK theatre tour of "Guards Guards" around about 1997, with Mr Darrow taking the lead.

Didnt do too badly either ...

reply

Bruce Willis for Vimes and that is it. Vimes is described in one of the books as "the wrong man at the wrong place". Does that sound familiar to you?

reply

A young Clint Eastwood, say about 15 to 20 years younger. Check out the cover-picture from Thud, kinda looks like him there.

reply

I love Sean Bean and his Boromir rocked in LOTR but Vimesy? nah.

It needs someone whose more weasly, sly and likely to kick you innafork. Hmm actually, 'Sharpey' probably does fit the bill . . . . :)

reply

Sean Bean is far too clean cut, as is Jason Flemyng. Vimes is a man off the streets, grew up in the rough areas of AM as well as being an ex acoholic as well as a working rage-aholic, so sean bean just doesn't cut it with me i'm afraid. Pete postlethwaite would be good as an english actor, i think he has the range to play the barely-concealed ball of anger that is Vimes.

Personally, i think Bruce Willis would do a great job, albeit a little 'hollywood superstar'-ish.

Whoever does play vimes when they eventually do a watch film will have to be slightly old and wirey for me, i'd rather have an unknown actor do a great job, then try and crowbar another celeb fan in to try and boost sales.

Even an old clint eastwood would look the part for me, just doubt he could do all the chase scenes lol

reply

Mark Strong would make for a good Vimes.

reply

Personally I favour Philip Glenister.

Kyle Chandler.
Enough said.

reply

Philip Glenister gets my vote, too.
