I've lost hope in humanity

When stuff this amazing fails at the box office, I just don't care about humanity anymore.

I don't think it is something to get upset about to the extent of losing faith in humanity xD This sort of thing happens all the time...
It even happens with video games.

For good movies like this to be financially successfull, it mainly needs a combination of rewatchability, wide audience appeal and proper marketing, which legend of the guardians had none of.

But does it really matter if a movie you like happens to bomb? (which LotG actually didn't)
It was at least made in the first place and the people who enjoy it, are enjoying it.

I think it failed because it was pretty much made for fans of the books. I don't think that too many people who have never heard of the books would want to see it.

When you're going to reveal bits of the story like that, you need to hide them. Some people, such as myself, come to these boards before we watch the movie to see if it was any good or not. So yeah.

This was very impressive visually, but I can see why it didn't have wide appeal.

Like other users on this post mentioned, it's a story we've already seen both in story and special effects. You can have the greatest voice cast and greatest animators but if you can't show a great story--it's just "meh". There was a lot of potential for this movie and I have to admit, when I saw the trailer I was in awe but after seeing it--I was rather disappointed and felt like I wasted 2 hours of my life. I'm just glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. Obviously, the 7 out of 10 rating as of 9 March 2011 and 66% on Rotten Tomatoes would indicate that the majority liked it but it simply didn't appeal to me.

The overuse of slow motion in Snyder films is overused, it can be seen in all of his movies and especially in this one. But that's nothing worth getting in a hot debate since it seems to work in some of his movies and overused in others.

Don't lose faith in humanity. You only need to lose faith in the marketing department at WB. I didn't see it in theaters because I hadn't heard about it. I knew of no compelling reasons to watch it. Heads should roll in the marketing department.

So genocide was OK, but a film... that's the last straw?
