Fight Scenes Unintentionally Hilarious

Did anybody else find the fight scenes in this movie unrealistic and laughable? They were sooo poorly staged and choreographed that It felt like I was watching a camp fight scene from an Austin Powers movie or something. Even the sound effects of the punches was silly.

I firmly believe the american version will improve on this and make the fight scenes gritty, violent and realistic.

The Part where Lisbeth casually approaches a fight with her hands behind her back and dodges a lot of punches was so ridiculous that it actually took me out of the movie experience.

Are you being absolutely sure about that? Sony has already green lit it once, but the problem is Fincher, if he has got the time cause he's quite booked. On the Dragon Tattoo board they've even said that he's not sure if he want to do the sequels as the other two books aren't focusing on Lisbeth and Blomkvist's story. Zaillian's script is already done, so... who knows. Take a look at Fincer's DT board, there's a lot of info about it there.

I know, he tries his best, haha. Definitely no BO hit like they thought it would be. I know Sony's spokes woman said there was no date booked. And I'd guess that's on Fincher too. Sorry to say this but if Americans can't appreciate the first movie for what it's suppose to be, I'd guess they are not going to like the sequels. There're so many voices how boring the storyline was and I'm like; what?! If you read the posts on the DT board about the plot, almost everyone seems to think this is almost a love story about Lisbeth and Mikael. And the Vanger story is a sidetrack. And that's not how Larsson meant when he wrote the book. He wrote a dark thriller about the abuse against women and if you've read the books you'll know that each chapter has it's beginning with statistics about violence against women. That's why it's called Men Who Hate Women and not something about a tattooed girl. Blomkvist has the leading role, not Lisbeth.

So I think you're actually right. Maybe there will be sequels one day but I don't think Fincher is going to be at the helm.

agreed. The movie was poorly directed IMHO

I just skimmed through this, but couldn't even be bothered to do that after glimpsing some absurd fight. The plot is already complete crap, and you're going to mess up the action too? They might be used to such garbage is Sweden, but it should remain contained there.

It was established that she was a fierce boxer herself.

I thought it had some great fight scenes, apparently the boxer was a real boxer and played himself haha.

The OP and one or two of his acolytes are idiots and probably should have been watching a Jackie Chan movie instead. They clearly were expecting some sort of martial arts extravaganza divorced from real life. The fight scenes are both realistic and consequential. People get hurt when they are punched/kicked and even require hospital treatment thereafter, except for Ronald Niedermann for obvious reasons that are explained in the film.

I did start chuckling when the Wu woman was getting abducted and the fight inside the warehouse.

No they were actually good. Much better than in Hollyweird.
